Aquaman 2: Amber Heard Reveals Her Hairstyle for the DCEU Sequel

Amber Heard shared the first photo of her bright red hair for her role as Mera in the upcoming sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Heard, who captured the image as "Red-dy," will reprise her role as Mera for the Aquaman sequel, has been actively preparing to return for the DC Extended Universe film, recently sharing a video of her training for her return to the role. Heard first appeared as Mera in the 2017 theatrical cut of Justice League and then reprised the character a year later for Aquaman.

Heard has shared updates and behind-the-scenes looks at her character before. Earlier this year, Heard posted a video showing how difficult it was to move in her costume for Zack Snyder's Justice League, revealing that she was not as graceful in the costume in real life as her character is in the film. Despite a fan petition calling to remove Heard from the film following her divorce from Johnny Depp, it has clearly had little to no impact on the Aquaman sequel, which was confirmed by producer Peter Safran.

"I don't think we're ever going to react to, honestly, pure fan pressure. You gotta do what's best for the movie. We felt that if it's James Wan, and Jason Momoa, it should be Amber Heard. That's really what it was," Safran said in a previous interview. "One is not unaware of what is going on in the Twitter-verse, but that doesn't mean you have to react to it or take it as gospel or accede to their wishes," Safran added. "You have to do what's right for the film, and that’s really where we landed on it."

Filming for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom began in June 2021, with Jason Mamoa joining the rest of the cast and crew in London nearly a month later. Mamoa has played Aquaman/Arthur Curry in the DCEU since 2016 when he first appeared in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The actor even helped in scripting the Aquaman sequel's first draft, along with Wan and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. "And all of our hearts are in it," Momoa said at the time. "Instead of just getting a script and doing that. You're 100% being encouraged by your director and co-writers so that's exciting for me. And I'm excited to go over there."

The film is currently filming under the title Necrus, and the cast includes Momoa, Heard and Patrick Wilson, who will return as Orm/Ocean Master. Pilou Asbaek, who portrayed Euron Greyjoy on Game of Thrones, will also star in the sequel in an undisclosed role.

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Dolph Lundgren and Pilou Asbaek. The film arrives in theaters Dec. 16, 2022.
