Boruto: 8 Ways Kawaki Ruined His Likability | CBR

Kawaki is one of the main characters in Naruto's sequel, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. Introduced in the prologue as an antagonist, Kawaki later makes an appearance in the story long after, toward the end of the Ao arc.

Kawaki has, since then, become integral to the main story of Boruto and his character appears to improve with each passing chapter. However, Kawaki is certainly not perfect. Like everyone else in Boruto, Kawaki has his flaws which often annoy the fans and ruin his likability by quite a bit, even when he is a favorite in the fandom.

8 He Is Extremely Rude When Talking To People

Kawaki is one of the most loved characters in the Boruto fandom, without a doubt, but even his fans realize that he is extremely rude to those around him. This was likely due to the fact that Kawaki wasn't raised properly by anyone. His father sold him and Jigen continued to beat him. Thus, Kawaki himself wasn't considerate of other people's feelings until recently. His habit of cursing at others certainly affected the way that the people in the Boruto world look at him.

7 He Was Introduced As A Scary Antagonist At The Beginning Of The Story

When Kawaki first appeared toward the end of the Ao arc, he proved himself to be quite a handful to deal with. Not only did he go into fits of anger where he demolished a bunch of robots, but he also attacked anyone in his vicinity. When Garo came to take him back to Jigen, Kawaki showed his terrifying side and defeated him within a matter of seconds before blowing his entire upper body to bits. If he had enough chakra, he would certainly not have hesitated to kill Team 7 as well, but he thankfully passed out soon after.

6 He Tried To Escape Naruto's Protection Way Too Many Times

When Kawaki was introduced to the people of Konoha, he immediately got defensive, as expected of someone who had been through abuse all his life. Later, however, Naruto proved to be a father to him and even allowed him to stay at his house as his own son. Despite everything, Kawaki attempted to escape multiple times, knowing that it would only worry Naruto.

Even when Code planned his attack, Kawaki ended up running in an attempt to lure him, but Naruto would've followed him anyway. It would've been much better if Kawaki took the helping hand that Naruto offered to him.

5 Kawaki Broke Himawari's Vase In An Attempt To Flee

When Kawaki joined the Uzumaki household, Hinata's birthday was just around the corner. Himawari had a vase prepared for her, which Kawaki ended up breaking even when the Uzumaki Family showed nothing but care to him. Seeing this, Boruto Uzumaki lost his cool and ordered Kawaki to make up for it. While Kawaki went to extreme lengths to make amends later on, hi initially didn't care about the vase at all.

4 He Looks For Shortcuts Instead Of Following The Shinobi Way

Shinobi grow through perseverance, and this has always been the case since the Naruto era. Kawaki, despite being a shinobi, doesn't understand that concept yet. According to him, fighting gruesome battles to the death is much better than what shinobi do. He even calls the shinobi way to be inefficient, which is extremely offensive to those who are ninja. Kawaki looks for efficiency, meaning he tries to take the shortest route possible. Sadly, this does affect his likability quite a bit and makes people dislike him, even if it's just a little.

3 Kawaki Is One Of The Most Impatient Characters In Boruto

Despite having good intentions, Kawaki ends up hastily doing things that he regrets later on. For instance, Kawaki's desire to protect the Seventh Hokage and repay the favor forces him to gain enough strength to be able to carry that burden. However, for a ninja, growth is only possible through training over the years and getting better every day.

Kawaki aims to attain that strength immediately so he can protect the Seventh Hokage whenever he wants. While his intentions are certainly good, the haste leads him to sticky situations, such as him having second thoughts about losing the Karma.

2 Kawaki Wants The Karma Back To Save Others

Kawaki spent most of his time in Boruto trying to get rid of the Karma in his body. Thanks to Naruto Uzumaki and the Konohagakure shinobi, he is free of the Karma when Isshiki Otsutsuki resurrects in the body of Jigen. Yet, Kawaki now wants the Karma once again just to protect those who have protected him. Once again, his intentions are good, but he doesn't realize that Naruto and the others have risked their lives to rid him of the evil power of the Karma. To put his hands on it again would essentially make Naruto's sacrifice useless.

1 Kawaki Takes The Wrong Path In The Future

The prologue of the Naruto series shows Kawaki fighting against Boruto Uzumaki atop the Hokage faces, all of which appear to be destroyed. Kawaki proclaims that the era of shinobi is over and that he will soon send Boruto to the place he's sent the Seventh Hokage. While it is unclear if Kawaki is a villain or not, he is certainly not in agreement with either Naruto Uzumaki or Boruto Uzumaki. He ends up fighting Boruto using the power of his Karma. Undoubtedly, Kawaki working against the wishes of Naruto and Boruto ruins his likability by quite a lot.
