Boruto Gets a Second Chance to Stop Momoshiki's Plan | CBR

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 220, "Remaining Time," now streaming on Crunchyroll.

In the Boruto anime, everyone's worried as to what the fate of Naruto's son will be. His family's scared, knowing Momoshiki can possess him anytime his chakra levels drop, while Shikamaru and the scientists are unsure of how to stymie the rewriting of the boy's DNA. Interestingly, Boruto does get a second chance when it comes to owning his body, but it's how long it'll last is a complete mystery.

Boruto isn't sleeping or eating, afraid if he gets tired and lets his guard down that the alien will take over again. Clearly, he's breaking as there's PTSD from when he stabbed Sasuke's Rinnegan, which worries Team 7 and his parents. With no solutions forthcoming, the Kages from the other villages and even Sasuke are contemplating killing Boruto before the villain can return because right now, proactivity and foresight are all they have.

However, Amado, the Kara scientist who defected to Konoha, meets the Hokage and offers him some black pills. He admits he used them to slow Isshiki's rewriting of Kawaki via small dosages, but isn't sure how they'll affect Boruto, who's being overwritten much more rapidly by the Ōtsutsuki coding.

Amado does know the tablets can affect the Byakugan, which Hinata (Boruto's mother) has, as well as the aliens, so Amado is hoping this shot in the dark works. He confesses that even if it stems the flow, it'll be temporary. As for why he only just revealed the meds, well, Amado admits he too had a daughter, but she died, so he doesn't want to see Naruto enduring the same pain.

More so, it's about business as Amado wants Naruto to get him officially transferred into the Hidden Leaf's science council. It'll make his amnesty legit and allow him to work on Boruto as well as Kawaki, with Katasuke and co. eager to learn from the genetic engineer. Naruto doesn't trust Amado fully, but he has no choice now with this gift being offered up.

Later, Boruto accepts the pills and quickly gobbles one at home, making it clear a small chance is better than none at all. Simply put, he's desperate and with other options absent, this is the way to go as he reassures his dad it'll all be fine. Thankfully, he's re-energized the next day, with Sarada and Mitsuki happy Team 7 can now return to the field.

However, Amado might have his own agenda so Naruto will have to keep watch. Plus, because the science is unknown and unpredictable, there could be adverse effects, which means Boruto will still have to be monitored to see if there's Momoshiki activity bubbling under the surface.
