Elden Ring Team Announces a Short Release Delay | CBR

Fans of the upcoming FromSoftware and George R. R. Martin collaborative project Elden Ring are in for a little disappointment. The role-playing action title, originally set for launch in Jan. 2022, has been delayed.

The postponement was announced by the game's official Twitter account, while also providing a little detail to soften the blow. Elden Ring's delay to Feb. 25 has been slightly offset by the announcement of a "Closed Network Test" taking place in November.

The delay, according to Elden Ring's developers, is because "...the depth & strategic freedom of the game exceeded initial expectations. Thank you for your trust & patience." That sounds like the game is in need of some fine-tuning, which players will assist with during November's network test.

According to publisher Bandai Namco, "Selected fans will be able to experience the opening hours of Elden Ring to get a hands-on glimpse at what the full game will have to offer while assisting the development team in testing the game’s online servers ahead of its new release date of February 25, 2022."

The test will be available from Nov. 12-14 across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The experience will be broken up into the following blocks:

  • Nov. 12: 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. PST
  • Nov. 12: 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. PST
  • Nov. 13: 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. PST
  • Nov. 14: 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. PST
  • Nov. 14: 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. PST

Players can sign up for a chance to be selected to join the network test at a dedicated web page. During the event, participants will find themselves able to play across console generations. That is, PlayStation 4 and 5 players can interact, and Xbox One and Series X|S players can play together.
