MCU: 5 Kanto Pokémon Captain America Would Want On His Team (& 5 He'd Pass Up)

Captain America is one of the best characters to come out of the MCU, his arc stretching from Phase 1 all the way to Endgame. Steve Rogers' idealism has paved the way for a new generation of heroes as the cinematic universe enters its fourth phase, but audiences will surely miss the Star Spangled Man in all his glory.

Captain America is behind the times where pop culture is concerned, but he did catch Nick Fury's reference to The Wizard of Oz in 2012's The Avengers. Steve Rogers' time in the 21st century crossed over with Pokêmon's popularity, so Captain America may hold a few Gen 1 favorites in his heart.

10 On The Team: Lickitung Is Ideal

Captain America needs a flexible team of Pokémon that can handle any mission type, including capture. Lickitung is a vaguely humanoid, pink creature that can use its extra-long tongue to slather opponents in paralyzing saliva and render them immobile in battle. Lickitung can use some physical attacks, such as Stomp and Slam, perfectly rounding out Cap's skill set.

9 Passed Up: Persian Doesn't Play Nice

Persian has a serious attitude, and Captain America won't like it. Persians are known for being a bit arrogant and fickle, which makes them difficult to tame. Captain America would have no patience for capturing Meowth's evolution. Leave this one up to Giovanni.

8 On The Team: Hitmonchan Can Do This All Day

Anytime he's not using his star-spangled shield, Captain America is using his bare fists and kicks to pummel enemies like Crossbones or even Iron Man into submission. Cap loves boxing and fisticuffs, and he'll want a Pokémon to match.

Hitmonchan is an agile Pokémon that can deliver powerful punches with its fists, both shaped like boxing gloves. Hitmonchan could easily keep up with Cap in the ring and send those sandbags flying.

7 Passed Up: Psyduck Is Just Weird

Psyduck is an eccentric Water-type renowned for its goofy appearance and perpetual headache, which sometimes fuel its potent psychic abilities. Unfortunately, some could say that Psyduck's troublesome personality will give their trainer a headache of their own. Psyduck has its merits, but its stubborn, silly behavior will test any trainer's patience. Captain America needs disciplined and reliable Pokémon who think like soldiers. Psyduck is anything but.

6 On The Team: Pidgeot Can Dominate The Skies

Pidgeot is one of the strongest Flying-types in Gen 1 aside from the legendary trio. Captain America would know that he needs at least one airborne Pokémon to round out his team, and Pidgeot is up to the job.

This Normal-type bird would remind Cap of Falcon, and Pidgeot's wind-based techniques like Gust, Whirlwind, and Wing Attack should secure victory in the skies. Any good team needs air support from time to time.

5 Pass Up: Machoke Has A Troublesome Personality

Machoke may be powerful, but it is also noted for its extreme vanity, and often spends time posing in front of a mirror instead of training. Captain America has no time for Pokémon soldiers who spend training time like that.

4 On The Team: Poliwrath Is Like A Navy SEAL

Captain America also needs a Water-type Pokémon on his team, and the Kanto region offers a variety of options from as Vaporeon to Starmie. Poliwrath isn't just an aquatic fighter — it's also a humanoid with incredible muscle strength and an affinity for melee combat.

Poliwrath can swim with ease and deliver devastating melee attacks, making it a bit like a Pokémon version of the Navy SEALs, in addition to its Water Gun technique. This is all Cap needs for aquatic battles.

3 Pass Up: Beedrill Is Unnecessary

Beedrill is the final evolution of Weedle, and emerges from its Kakuna state ready to sting any opponents into submission with its trademark drills. This is impressive, but Captain America would rather have a Pidgeot or a Fearow for air support. Plus, Beedrill simply isn't his style.

2 On The Team: Flareon Is Loyal & Quick

Captain America needs a Fire-type Pokémon to balance out his team, but he needs a Pokémon that has some sense of restraint and discipline. Flareon can avoid enemy firepower with its fancy footwork, then hit back with melee attacks and impressive techniques such as Ember and Fire Spin.

1 Pass Up: Wartortle Needs To Lose The Attitude

Wartortle may be a strong Pokémon with a hard shell and decent bubble attacks, but its attitude is a problem. Wartortles are known for frequent bad moods. Even if Cap acts like his old drill sergeants from his Army days, he wouldn't instill proper discipline into a Wartortle. This Pokémon is getting kicked out of training camp.
