Unfortunately, the Jedi Council's predictions that he was too old and emotional to receive training were true. Anakin suffered a great deal of loss and injustice in his life, making him much more of an emotional individual who would commit the greatest atrocities if it meant gaining the power required to protect the things that he cared about.

10 He Killed Defenseless Younglings

Shortly after becoming Darth Vader, Anakin was ordered to go to the Jedi temple and execute anyone within. He followed his orders with no hesitation or remorse. He came across some Younglings, who eagerly approached him for guidance. However, he had none to give and mercilessly struck all of them down. This is considered one of his worst crimes, and it was so awful that Obi-Wan struggled to believe it was true.

9 He Choked Padme For Her "Betrayal"

Padme Amidala followed Anakin to Mustafar, and at first, their reunion was sweet. However, Padme's joy quickly turned to horror when she realized that Anakin had become violent and power-hungry.

When Anakin noticed Obi-Wan exiting her ship, he immediately assumed that his wife had betrayed him and intended to have Obi-Wan kill him. He immediately began to choke her using the Force. His actions led to her losing her will to live, making him responsible for her death.

8 He Sliced Off Mace Windu's Hand

Although Anakin did the right thing by revealing Palpatine's identity to Mace Windu, he was determined to keep the Sith Lord alive. He stated that Palpatine had a right to a fair trial, but deep down, he felt that he needed him in order to save Padme's life. Unwilling to risk losing his wife, he stopped Mace from killing Palpatine by slicing off his hand. The pain distracted his fellow Jedi long enough for Palpatine to finish him off.

7 He Killed His Mother's Captors

Anakin had dreams of his mother, Shmi Skywalker, who appeared to be in pain. He and Padme went to Tatooine, only to discover that his mother had been captured by Tusken Raiders.

He searched for her and eventually discovered her in a Tusken camp, where she passed away before his very eyes. Consumed by rage, he killed everyone there, including the women and children.

6 He Became Darth Vader And Ruled Next To Palpatine For Years

Anakin was seduced by the dark side of the Force and would go on to commit countless crimes. With his position of power, he would choke and even kill some underlings if they displeased him, considering them to be expendable. He had no qualms with torturing people for information and even was present when the Death Star destroyed Princess Leia's home planet.

5 He Beheaded Count Dooku

Anakin and Obi-Wan were responsible for rescuing Chancellor Sheev Palpatine from the clutches of Count Dooku. During the battle between the two Jedi and the Count, Obi-Wan was overwhelmed, leaving Anakin to fight Dooku on his own. He eventually gave in to his anger, slicing off the Sith Lord's hands and rendering him helpless. At the urging of the Chancellor, he executed Count Dooku, despite knowing that his actions were wrong.

4 He Killed The Separatists

The Separatist Council was a group of people who secretly served Palpatine. Throughout the prequel trilogy, they took orders from him frequently. In the final film of the trilogy, Palpatine decided that he had no use for them and betrayed them. He promised that he was sending Darth Vader to take care of them, and none of the Separatist members suspected that Vader's intention was to kill them.

3 He Fought Obi-Wan And Eventually Killed Him

Anakin battled Obi-Wan on Mustafar, giving his old mentor no choice. His rage made him all too eager to kill the person who had been his best friend not long ago. Their battle was long and fierce and ended with Anakin screaming that he hated his mentor. They wouldn't clash again until years later, in a confrontation that led to Darth Vader cutting down his aged master.

2 He Married Padme In Secret

Relationships were frowned upon by the Jedi, and Obi-Wan warned Anakin that a relationship with a politician was especially risky, since they could not be trusted. Despite knowing the risks, Anakin and Padme went through with the marriage. With the event closely following the loss of his mother, Anakin had already established the fact that he was not able to cope with loss, and their marriage doomed him and his wife to a tragic future.

1 He Constantly Questioned The Jedi Council

Anakin was incredibly arrogant, yet he felt like the odd one out. This was due to the fact that he was the "Chosen One," but he knew that the council never truly approved of him. Palpatine used his influence to make Anakin a member of the Jedi Council, which they allowed, although they refused to make him a Jedi Master. Despite being granted a huge honor, he verbally lashed out at them, feeling cheated.
