The Wheel of Time Channels a New Trailer with an Immersive 3-D Experience

The first full trailer for The Wheel of Time has dropped, ahead of the November premiere of the epic fantasy series on Prime Video.

In addition to debuting new footage and providing a closer look at some of the scenes, characters and locations shown in The Wheel of Time's first teaser, the new trailer is presented in a novel and unique format. Viewers come to the trailer on YouTube and find a virtual "wheel" in 3-D, using the site's 360 player and spatial surround sound to create an immersive experience. Moiraine can be seen channeling on the left, while the taint on the male half of the One Power is represented on the right side of the screen. Fans can watch the trailer over and over again to pick up on hidden visual and audible aspects.

Before the trailer's release, the show's official Twitter built hype by showing off new hashtag emojis for the characters Moiraine, Lan, Egwene, Rand, Nynaeve, Perrin, Mat and Logain, as well as a Myrddraal and an ouroboros emoji to represent the show itself. These icons can be used on Twitter by entering the character's name after a hashtag.

Other tweets coming from the account had some fun with fans, staging conversations between the characters in text chains. "Got a new trail I found," says Mat in one. "Want to see where it leads." The response from Rand is, "Cool. I'll be your trail-er buddy."

The Wheel of Time, which is based on the bestselling fantasy novels by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson, is set in a world in which only women can work magic by channeling the One Power. Moiraine's search for the prophesied savior of the world leads her to five young people from a village called the Two Rivers, who will become caught up in a worldwide conflict as they each discover their own power. However, if one of them is a man who can channel, he'll be in danger from both the world and himself.

The wait for The Wheel of Time has been longer than expected, due to initial difficulties in securing rights to the property and then delays related to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the series is now well underway, with Season 2 announced in May this year and production on it having begun in July.

The first three episodes of The Wheel of Time Season 1 will premiere on Amazon on November 19.
