The Wheel of Time is coming soon to Amazon Prime Video, and the show's official key art is now here to build the hype.
The art, shown below, features seven of the main characters in a nod to the ensemble nature of the cast: Moiraine Sedai has her Warder Lan Mandragoran at her side, and the two of them lead the way for Nynaeve al'Meara, Rand al'Thor, Perrin Aybara, Mat Cauthon and Egwene al'Vere. With the series' Great Serpent logo centered in the image, the space above it is devoted to the monstrous Shadowspawn that the heroes will face. A Myrddraal, also called the Eyeless, looms overhead with an army of Trollocs coming from behind it.
Also of note in the design is the pattern of lines at the ground where the characters are walking, which resembles woven thread. This evokes a major theme in the story, the "weaving of the Wheel," as well as the act of weaving the One Power as the Aes Sedai do when channeling.
The key art is just one part of the recent promotion for The Wheel of Time, with several still images from Season 1 just released, and more material and insights to come during this week's New York Comic Con.
The Wheel of Time, which is based on the bestselling fantasy novels from author Robert Jordan, has been in development at Amazon since 2018. Set in a world in which only women can work magic by channeling the One Power, the story focuses on Moiraine, a member of the all-female organization of Power-wielding Aes Sedai. Moiraine is searching for the prophesied savior of the world known as the Dragon Reborn, and the quest leads her to five young villagers who will become caught up in a worldwide conflict as they each discover their own power. However, if one of them is a man who can channel, he'll be in danger from both the world and himself.
The show's cast and showrunner Rafe Judkins will be on NYCC's main stage on Friday, October 8 at 2:30 p.m. EDT, to discuss what it was like to bring the series to life, as well as what fans can expect when the long-awaited epic fantasy finally reaches the screen.
