10 Secret Agents From Other Films That Could Outsmart James Bond

Being the best secret agent in the game comes with a lot of baggage. James Bond has made countless enemies over the years, not to mention a seemingly endless string of broken hearts along the way. More importantly, James has a lot of challengers for the crown of top agent at MI6.

It's important to keep in mind that most of Bond's familiar challengers come from his own world, but there are more than a few from other films that could give him a run for his money – if not outright run circles around him. Being the best in the business is a relative statement.

10 The Saint Moves In Mysterious Ways

Simon "The Saint" Templar has been part of pop culture since 1928. It all started with novels and short stories written by Leslie Charteris. A film series followed between 1938 and 1954 as well as a radio series voiced by Vincent Price and a TV series with Sir Roger Moore in the lead.

Keeping in mind that Simon is more of a Robin Hood character than a traditional spy, he certainly maintains a lot of spy-like tactics and tendencies. He's more of a strategist than James Bond and would outthink him quite handily.

9 Black Widow Has Some Impressive Moves

The history of Black Widow in Marvel Comics goes back decades and she has long been a relatively popular character, but Scarlett Johansson's portrayal of the spy in the MCU has turned the Widow into a mainstream success story.

Black Widow could definitively beat Bond in a fight. She simply has better skills, but she's also likely smarter than him – as evidenced by her ability to survive as a human in a world of gods and monsters for so long.

8 Ethan Hunt Is A Borderline Juggernaut

Mission: Impossible's legacy stretches all the way back to the 1960s as an incredibly popular TV series, but the franchise would find new life in 1996 on movie screens in a film series headed up by Tom Cruise. In the movies, Cruise plays Ethan Hunt, a daredevil secret agent who stops at nothing to achieve his goals. This is a master strategist who weaves intricate plans that account for every possibility. Even his own allies don't see every angle he plans coming. James Bond certainly wouldn't.

7 Lorraine Broughton Is Always Five Steps Ahead

As the days of the Berlin Wall were coming to a close in the late 1980s, MI6 agent Lorraine Broughton of Atomic Blonde was sent on a mission to retrieve stolen information. What followed was a tale of intrigue in a part of the world overrun by spies in that era.

Broughton was the type of spy who knew how to play everyone to her advantage, and that included her own supposed allies at MI6. Being that James Bond also works for MI6, that would most certainly include him.

6 Nick Fury Is Levels About Bond

When it comes to being a spymaster, Nick Fury is playing chess when everyone else in the game is playing checkers. The man is 20 steps ahead of his own employers, let alone any of his enemies. To Nick, everyone is an enemy and an ally at the same time. James Bond simply isn't ready for someone like Nick Fury. He would have James beat before they even faced off. Just discovering Nick Fury's existence would be a major win for Bond.

5 Jason Bourne Is Prepared For Everything

The program that created Jason Bourne was, for all intents and purposes, analogous to the Super Soldier program that created Captain America. That being said, the Super Soldier program involved a lot less brainwashing.

Bourne was the best of the best – not just as a fighter, but also as a strategist. He came up with plans on the fly in response to what was going on in front of him that most people couldn't dream up with a month to think about it. The entire American government couldn't bring Bourne down. Bond sure isn't doing it.

4 Harry Hart Might Just Be Smarter And More Stylish

When it comes to secretive agencies protecting the UK from massive threats, it's hard to find one operating deeper in the shadows than Kingsman. This crew of proper gentlemen has the gear, the training, and the style to handle pretty much anything.

Harry Hart might be the best agent the Kingsman have ever had. The man is the epitome of grace under fire, someone who can take care of any problem with wit and class. Harry would get the better of Bond at every turn and would look good doing it.

3 Austin Powers Is Easy To Underestimate

The entire point of the Austin Powers franchise is to mock the spy genre. For the most part, the target was James Bond, particularly the films from the 1960s and 1970s – and Powers did a good and thorough job of mocking Bond.

Lost in the mix of the comedy was the fact that Austin Powers was a smart guy who was good at his job. In all likelihood, he was a better spy than James. Austin's look and demeanor would cause James to underestimate him, something Powers would take advantage of.

2 Jack Ryan Fixes A Problem By Thinking It Through

When it comes to working intelligence, few have mastered the game the way Jack Ryan has. He's not traditionally a field operative but he's also more than capable of handling himself in some rough situations. First and foremost, Ryan will always try to think his way out of a problem. He is incredibly intelligent, even more than James Bond. It's hard to say who would win in a fight but Jack would definitely outthink James.

1 John Mason Is A Better Spy Than James Bond

The legend of John Mason is a difficult one. Very few details about his past prior to the events of The Rock were given, other than the fact that he was a master spy of some sort. His career earned him a stay in Alcatraz, a place he actually managed to escape.

Mason was like a wiser version of James Bond who had a lifetime of experience to draw on. Some have even theorized that Mason was always a much older Bond under a different name. Regardless of the truth, Mason would have Bond's number.
