5 Daniel Craig Characters James Bond Would Respect (& 5 He Wouldn't)

Daniel Craig is best known for his stint as the iconic James Bond from 2006 to 2021. However, he's been in a number of varying roles across multiple genres over the years. While it isn't possible for Craig's other characters to meet and converse with his James Bond counterpart, it's fun to speculate who he would or wouldn't get on with if they met.

Craig's other characters have varied in personality, morals, and even general temperament, making Daniel Craig a versatile actor and so much more than "just James Bond."

10 Would Respect: Mikael Blomkvist (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo)

The Millennium Trilogy is the collective name for the books and movies encompassing The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest. While journalist Mikael Blomkvist was in all three movies, Daniel Craig only portrayed him in the first installment.

In the series, Blomkvist is fond of and spends time with several women – something James Bond can certainly relate to. He also excels at his job, has good detective skills, and quickly gets to the point. Although James Bond ends up in foot chases and shootouts more often than not, he'd certainly respect Blomkvist for doing well at his job.

9 Wouldn't Respect: Joe Bang (Logan Lucky)

In the fun heist movie Logan Lucky, Daniel Craig plays the eccentric criminal Joe Bang. While his affinity for explosives and cracking safes could wind up being useful to James Bond (in very specific situations), Bang's true criminal nature suggests that their interests wouldn't ever align. If Bond ever needed Joe's skill set, he'd likely ask Q to come up with a genius invention instead – especially one thay bypassed the need to deal with an unreliable and unpredictable individual.

8 Would Respect: Tuvia Bielski (Defiance)

Defiance is an adaptation of the true story involving a Belarussian family fleeing the Nazis during the Second World War. While forming a community, thriving, and surviving, Daniel Craig plays Tuvia Bielski alongside Liev Schreiber as his brother Zus.

Alongside Tuvia's leadership skills, his defiance in the face of adversity helped give people hope in a time of crisis, which anyone can respect. While Tuvia didn't possess James Bond's unrivaled calm nature when under pressure, his practicality and ability to inspire others would certainly get Bond's attention.

7 Wouldn't Respect: Sakharine (The Adventures Of Tintin)

In the movie adaptation of Tintin titled The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, Daniel Craig injected life into the character of Ivan Ivanovitch Sakharine. However, this was a completely different Sakharine to other versions of Tintin where Sakharine was an innocent model ship collector. In the movie, he was reimagined and remodeled into the main antagonist who was searching for pieces of parchment and treasure.

After initially trying to buy the model ship from Tintin, Sakharine grew desperate, stopping at nothing to get what he wanted. Such a character would never gain the respect of someone like James Bond.

6 Would Respect: Benoit Blanc (Knives Out)

In Knives Out, Daniel Craig plays Benoit Blanc, a very gentlemanly and pleasant detective who works hard to get to the bottom of every case he takes on and ensure justice is served. This causes him to have a more stern and aggressive demeanor at times, although this is typical of most sleuths within the "whodunit" genre.

While it's difficult to imagine scenarios that require both Blanc and James Bond to converse, there's no cause to assume there would be any hostility or lack of respect between the two. If anything, Bond would respect Blanc's methods and determination to serve justice.

5 Wouldn't Respect: Stormtrooper (Star Wars: The Force Awakens)

Daniel Craig was one of several celebrities who donned the helmet of a Stormtrooper in uncredited roles. Interestingly, his stint as a Stormtrooper gave him some lines that played a pivotal part in Rey discovering her Force powers.

In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Daniel Craig's Stormtrooper was manipulated by the Force into releasing Rey and helping her escape before Kylo Ren returned. Aside from the likes of Finn, Stormtroopers have always been mindless lackeys for the various villainous leaders in the Star Wars universe, never really deserving of any consideration or respect.

4 Would Respect: Alex West (Lara Croft: Tomb Raider)

Daniel Craig's Alex West from Lara Croft: Tomb Raider wasn't a particularly likable character due to the fact he only looked out for himself. That sort of behavior makes someone unpredictable and extremely dangerous. However, Alex obviously had a deeper connection with Lara, whether it was romantic, friendly, or simply respectful. So when Lara went out of her way to rewind time and save him, he ultimately deserved the effort.

Alex also toed the line of "supporting villain." He was both the hired help for Manfred Powell and the Illuminati and a friend of the protagonist, which implies a conflicted nature. While someone like Alex doesn't necessarily garner or deserve respect, he ended up on Lara's good side and proved there was hope for his redemption.

3 Wouldn't Respect: Connor Rooney (Road To Perdition)

In one of Daniel Craig's best villainous roles, he played the despicable Connor Rooney in Sam Mendes's Road To Perdition. Connor was the violent and volatile son of Irish mob boss, John Rooney. Connor's numerous needless killings were initially just him acting out against his father. However, they'd later have larger and more severe consequences.

Connor was the person responsible for the murder of Sullivan's family, which prompted a vengeful counterattack by Tom Hanks's character and led to his demise. No one appeared to like or respect Connor, with that being both the cause and consequence of his actions.

2 Would Respect: Steve (Munich)

Steven Spielberg's 2005 historical action thriller Munich follows a group of Jewish volunteers tasked with exacting revenge on the eleven Palestinians responsible for killing members of the Israeli Olympic team at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich.

One of those tasked with this calculated revenge mission was Daniel Craig's character Steve – a South African driver determined to stand up and take action. Steve often argued with the other members of the group about his tendency to charge into conflict head first and deal with the consequences later. However, he gradually learned that his methods weren't always the best or only solution. With James Bond often dealing with the consequences of his actions, at the very least, he'd understand Steve's motivations.

1 Wouldn't Respect: Lord Asriel (The Golden Compass)

The movie adaptation of The Golden Compass was widely criticized for its portrayal of Philip Pullman's novel series His Dark Materials, with its somewhat cheery ending no doubt expecting a sequel. Lord Asriel's major twist and transgression of sacrificing Lyra's best friend Roger was allegedly cut from the final edit, but this ill intent and obsession with discovery was still a major part of Asriel's character.

Daniel Craig's Lord Asriel was researching Dust and its limits, and his interactions with Lyra were awkward and harsh. One man's obsession and disregard for those he should care about wouldn't resonate with James Bond. Their only similarity is their preference to work alone.
