WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Eternals, now in theaters.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one of the scariest sights has been, and will always be, Bruce Banner losing control as Hulk. He's turned Earth, as well as Sakaar, into a den of violence, even proving when he's within his senses, he's a raging gamma beast the Avengers should steer clear of as well. However, come Eternals, there's a Hulk much deadlier than this Jade Giant, who has been secluded on Earth for millennia.
This is none other than Angelina Jolie's Thena. She's the premier soldier for the Eternals and a warrior they respect. Her deadly kills first show when she slaughters Deviants, using the spear and shield she generates from thin air, cutting them down and impaling them with her cosmic weapons.
Simply put, if you wanted a merciless, unforgiving Wonder Woman, who moves super-quick, is agile beyond comparison and loves the thrill of the kill, this is her. However, the big twist comes later on when Thena loses control and attacks her own family, wounding most of them. Gilgamesh, incapacitates her, but Ajak confirms her mind's fractured with memories collapsing after years of serving Arimesh.
It turns out, the memory tampering the Celestial father has repeatedly done to reboot them has turned her into a war machine who sees no ally. This is due to the truama she's suffering from all the planets she's helped kill -- a twist found later on as the movie confirms the Eternals' role is to clear these planets of Deviants and allow citizens to thrive so a Celestial seed can be born from the energy of overpopulation.
Rather than a gamma bomb turning Bruce into a Green Goliath, Thena's trauma turns her eyes white and reprograms her to kill everything in sight. What's so dangerous is her weapons can pierce all of her alien clan, which would cut Hulk up if they ever fought. Emil Blonsky and Thanos have pushed him to the limit before, so Thena's weapons could easily slice him apart if they were compared pound for pound.
As for how she's soothed, Gilgamesh's love goes a long way as he holds her hand and reminds her he's there for her. It's akin to Black Widow's hypnotic suggestion for Bruce, using "the sun's getting real low," and holding his hand too. However, while Bruce becomes less of a risk as their partnership goes on, the Eternals grow more fearful of Thena, as there's no real clue what triggers her.
Sadly, Gilgamesh has to hide her away in the Australian desert for centuries to protect the planet, but even when they unite again to stop Tiamut's rise, her Hulk is still there, wanting to slay friend or foe. Thus, this makes her a way more uncontrollable destroyer. Bruce should be glad he didn't face her because -- with Gilgamesh eventually dying -- she'd have mercilessly killed him in the present.
To see how Thena is scarier than Bruce Banner's Hulk, Eternals is now in theaters.
