Hunt: Showdown TV Series Adaptation in Development | CBR

Hunt: Showdown, the competitive first-person shooter, is getting a live-action series.

Hunt: Showdown's development team is working closely with the upcoming streaming service Binge to bring the adaptation to life. Launching in 2022, Binge will be a platform dedicated to gamers, with series and shows inspired by video games and content creators. Founder Avni Yerli expressed his excitement on the Crytek website, saying," We have always known that Hunt: Showdown would look great as a live-action series. The world is dark, gritty, and immersive, and there is so much potential for many great stories to be told. We can't wait to see what the team at Binge can create."

Binge co-founder Allan Ungar says it was Hunt: Showdown's bold and unique setting that inspired the project. The action takes place in a fictionalized version of late 19th century Louisiana, where bounty hunters compete against each other to kill mythical monsters. Tension is key to Hunt: Showdown's atmosphere, and producer Vince Talenti hints that the live-action adaptation will be just as adrenaline-fuelled. "Hunt: Showdown is a heart-pumping survival game with incredible lore that's ripe for a live-action series adaptation," he said. "We're excited to drop viewers deep into the bayou and have them come face to face with monsters and hunters alike."

Hunt: Showdown received generally positive reviews when it was released for PC in 2019. It was praised for its unpredictable multiplayer experience, which encourages players to compete and steal from each other in a battle royale. Critics also celebrated the game's sound design, which creates tension with ambient sounds, such as creaking boardwalks and jangling chains. Technical issues delayed the game's Xbox One release by a month, and it arrived on PlayStation 4 the following year.

Announced during E3 2021, Binge aims to be the first streaming platform to produce content specifically for gamers, and it already has several video game adaptations in the pipeline. Among these are live-action shows based on the System Shock franchise and Ubisoft's Driver. Co-founder Ungar, who previously released a 15-minute Uncharted short starring Nathan Fillion, also teased that this could be the first of many collaborations with Crytek.

Binge is scheduled for release in 2022 and will be free to download for TV, mobile, PC and games consoles.
