Hunter X Hunter: 5 Characters Who Could Become Pro Heroes (& 5 Who Couldn't)

Hunter x Hunter is set in a richly realized world where martial arts, terrifying monsters, adventure and the Nen combat system all co-exist, and this is the perfect shonen setting for a superhero. In this world, Hunters are professionals who can use any means necessary to find treasure or embark on a quest, and this requires some incredible physical feats.

Some Hunters are more like Pro Heroes than anything, and if Gon and the other Hunter x Hunter characters found themselves in the Quirk-filled world of My Hero Academia, they could make it as Pro Heroes. Fortunately for them, Nen abilities are often on par with Quirks, and some Hunters boast truly impressive martial arts or equipment for a job. Who could make it as a sanctioned Pro Hero?

10 COULD BECOME A HERO: Gon Freecss Is Almost Like Izuku Midoriya

Gon Freecss has many trademarks of a classic shonen protagonist, similar to Izuku Midoriya, Naruto Uzumaki, Son Goku and others. Gon is a brave and noble boy who always strives to save the day and protect everyone dear to him, and he will gladly risk his life for the sake of others.

That means he has the heart of a true Pro, and he might even be a fine One For All candidate someday. In addition, Gon has surprisingly sharp instincts and insights in battle, and he keeps getting stronger and stronger with his Enhancer-type Nen, which is almost like One For All at times. It's time for him to don the cape.

9 COULDN'T BECOME A HERO: Leorio Paradinight Is A Med Student

Leorio is one of Gon's best friends, and he also took part in the Hunter Exam and survived, which is a remarkable feat all in its own. However, Leorio isn't terribly interested in Nen or martial arts. Instead, he is mainly focused on studying to become a doctor, and he also appreciates the value of cold hard cash.

Leorio is a good person, but he's not cut out to be a Hunter or a Pro Hero. His physical combat skills are unremarkable, and he has no Nen or Quirk to enhance his prowess, nor does he carry any remarkable weapons. He's best off staying in the civilian sector, like Melissa Shield. Leorio can do some good elsewhere.

8 COULD BECOME A HERO: Killua Zoldyck Is A Heroic Assassin

Killua Zoldyck is Gon's best friend and a good-natured rival at times, since both boys compete endlessly to see who can get further in their Nen training, such as when they trained with Biscuit in the Greed Island arc. Killua may have a bad attitude at times, but he is definitely a hero with a good heart, despite his upbringing.

Killua can easily kill someone with his frightening skills, but he can and will show restraint if he must. If he became a Pro Hero, he could outmaneuver and knock out all kinds of villains on the streets, all without shedding blood. His family might disapprove of such mercy, but he's not doing this for their sake.

7 COULDN'T BECOME A HERO: Kurapika Kurta Is Too Specialized

Kurapika Kurta is one of the last surviving members of the red-eyed Kurta family, and he is bitterly determined to dispatch his family's killers, the Phantom Troupe organization. Kurapika is absolutely fixated on them, and he can't be bothered to fight anyone else.

To that end, Kurapika made a solemn Nen vow to use his incredible powers only against Phantom Troupe members, or else lose his life. He is far too focused on the Phantom Troupe to become a Pro Hero and fight crime in the streets -- he's a man on a mission.

6 COULD BECOME A HERO: Pakunoda Is An Excellent Tracker

Even villains may be considered to become Pro Heroes if they repent for their wicked ways and resolve to start doing good. Pakunoda is a gunslinger who's intensely loyal to Chrollo Lucifer, the Phantom Troupe boss, but under different circumstances, she could have been a remarkably effective Pro Hero.

Pakunoda's physical strength is unremarkable, but she won't need it to fight crime. She is a smart and skilled tracker who could hunt down criminals anywhere, and her memory-based abilities would allow her to extract vital intel from captured villains and criminals to help other Pros bust a crime ring or track down All For One. No one can lie to Pakunoda or hide the truth, even if they try.

5 COULDN'T BECOME A HERO: Biscuit Krueger Is More Interested In Training Others

In terms of combat strength, the deceptively petite Biscuit Krueger would make for a powerful Pro Hero, but that's simply not what she wants to do. Biscuit is actually 57 years old, and she's in no mood to run all over the place playing cops and robbers. She's past that.

Biscuit's real role in the story is to help train Gon and Killua in the ways of Nen, and that's exactly what she did during the Greed Island arc and early in the Chimera Ant arc. She's more like Gran Torino than All Might.

4 COULD BECOME A HERO: Kite Was A Deadly Hunter

Until his death at the hands of the playfully vicious Neferpitou, the man named Kite was a top-tier Hunter who could seemingly do a bit of everything, from tracking down the elusive Ging Freecss to having an affinity for animals. And, of course, Kite is a devastating fighter whom Gon looked up to.

Kite had astonishing strength, speed reflexes and tactical insights during battle -- all good earmarks of a Pro Hero. He could easily hunt down any hidden villain, even the likes of Overhaul and Tomura Shigaraki, and take the fight to them with his Crazy Slots weapon and Nen.

3 COULDN'T BECOME A HERO: Menchi Is All About Gourmet

Not all Hunters are dedicated to tracking down wanted outlaws or scouring the world for lost treasures. Hunters can prowl the world for all kinds of things, and that even includes gourmet and rare ingredients. Someone has to discover new ingredients and species to cook, after all.

Menchi has some remarkable physical dexterity and strength, mostly so she can seize ingredients such as giant spider eggs and return home with them. She is also a skilled and insightful food critic. None of this, however, would help her fight crime as a Pro Hero. No one's asking her to judge All For One's cooking.

2 COULD BECOME A HERO: Morel Mackernasey Is A Smoke-Based Hunter

Although Morel is rather humble about his capabilities as a Hunter, he is an immensely powerful fighter who could certainly rank highly among Japan's Pro Heroes if he ever ended up in that world. He has highly advanced tactical abilities as well, and he works well in a team.

On top of all that, he could be an excellent Pro Hero with his smoke-based Nen abilities, which are similar to a Quirk. He can form a smoke prison to trap his enemies, and he can also form solid objects from his smoke. He could easily keep the streets safe as a caped Pro Hero.

1 COULDN'T BECOME A HERO: Satotz Is An Archeology Hunter

Like Menchi, Satotz may be a Hunter, but that doesn't mean he's a fighter who's ready to rumble in the streets. Satotz specializes in archeology, hunting priceless relics of the ancient past. It must be exciting work for him, but Pro Hero agencies aren't looking to hire such a person.

Despite this, Satotz still has some impressive physical abilities, such as his extreme stamina. He can perform a vigorous fast walk for hours without tiring, including up a long flight of stairs. He also has some stealth capabilities, and can use Nen. Still, no one's asking him to fight the League of Villains.
