Injustice: 5 Ways The Movie Is Better (& 5 The Game Is) | CBR

Injustice and Injustice: Gods Among Us are two different interpretations of a story, in which Superman loses Lois Lane and their unborn child and begins to transform into a tyrannical ruler of Earth. While Injustice is a film that focuses on Superman's downfall, Injustice: Gods Among Us is a game that depicts Batman's last desperate attempt to defeat his former friend, who is already far past being reasoned with.

The film is the most recent interpretation of the famous story, yet has been met with harsh criticism from audiences. The game, despite being released in 2013, is still praised by fans. Each interpretation has a fair share of strengths and weaknesses, giving fans room to debate which version is better.

10 The Movie: It Shows Clark Spending Time With Lois

Something the game doesn't do is show Clark's time with Lois. Players only see how close they were through Superman. His pain is reflected in his expressions and is most palpable when he confronts the Joker for making him do something unspeakable.

The movie takes the time to show the couple together, sharing their joy when they discover that Lois is pregnant, and showing Superman's frantic response to Lois' disappearance.

9 The Game: The Flash Doesn't Die

To the dismay of many fans, The Flash was killed at the beginning of the movie. Most insulting was the fact that the film and its characters brushed off his death, as though it was inconsequential. In the game, The Flash plays a much bigger role.

After seeing Superman kill Captain Marvel, he started questioning his loyalty and the morality of their actions and defected despite the dangers such an action posed. This allowed him to redeem himself.

8 The Movie: It Shows The Tragedies The Game Only References

Not every player who played the Injustice game was familiar with the story, or even the characters. These players missed out on a lot of moments that were truly devastating. The game only references the death of Lois and her baby, as well as Nightwing's death.

The movie shows these scenes in their entirety. Batman's reaction to Nightwing's death is one of the most powerful scenes in the movie, as he struggles to maintain the Batman persona before Catwoman unmasks and comforts him, allowing him to finally cry.

7 The Game: Lex Luthor's Friendship With Superman

Lex Luthor, although absent in the movie, was a great addition to the game. In a surprising twist, it turned out that he was friends with Superman, rather than his enemy. Lex provided funding to Superman, and they seemed close, despite Lex hiding the fact that he didn't agree with Superman's views.

He would eventually confront Superman only to be killed for his efforts, showing just how far gone the former hero was.

6 The Movie: Batman & Superman Do Small Things To Show That They Care

Batman and Superman have a hard time seeing eye to eye throughout the film. Batman, knowing the consequences that come with getting vengeance, tried multiple times to reason with Clark. He avoided siding with many of Clark's extreme actions to prevent the creation of a monster, yet when Clark's father was kidnapped, he was quick to rush to the perpetrator, although Clark himself was unaware of this.

Clark also went out of his way to check on Bruce when he was grieving over Nightwing's death, and seemed to desire Bruce's support the most.

5 The Game: There's No Plastic Man

The game retains a consistent tone throughout. The universe that the main heroes get dragged into is dark and gritty, which is a harsh comparison to their hopeful and bright dispositions. Although they crack jokes, it never detracts from the mood or the story itself.

Plastic Man was an unwelcome addition to the movie. Not only was he animated in a way that felt much too wacky for such a serious story, but his presence on screen made a mockery of the conflict he was caught up in.

4 The Movie: It Shows How One Act Of Violence Can Lead To Another

No one knows better than Batman that no one stops after one act of vengeance. If a person feels justified, they will do it again and again, especially if they have the power to get away with it.

Superman started off mercifully, but after losing so many people close to him, he felt that he deserved to enact justice upon the world, going so far as to kill dozens of people just because they liked the Joker.

3 The Game: There Is A More Satisfying Crossover Between Universes

The movie only brings two people from two different universes: Superman and Lois Lane. Superman fights the Superman from Universe 1, while a pregnant Lois Lane, who lost her Clark, talked Superman down. In the game, Batman couldn't bring over only two people, as he needed multiple heroes to acquire kryptonite.

Additionally, bringing a Lois from another universe would have made Superman into even more of a monster, as her rejection would have made him react violently. Seeing multiple heroes from two different universes fight each other was much more fun and exciting, especially since fans could play as those characters.

2 The Movie: Superman's Meeting With Another Lois Lane is a powerful scene

After fighting an uncorrupted version of himself, Superman was confronted by a Lois from another universe. He immediately recognized her, but at the same time, knew that she wasn't the same Lois he knew. Although a few of his friends tried to talk some sense into him, his encounter with this Lois was enough to finally bring back the man he once was.

It's a powerful scene, considering the fact that a few words from her were enough to convince him to stop, symbolizing how much she meant to him. In the movie, Superman wasn't as far gone as he was in the game.

1 The Game: It Shows Multiple Characters' Point of Views

The story is told from multiple perspectives—of both heroes and villains. This is a perfect setup for the game, as it allowed players to control different characters during key battles.

It also allowed the game to delve into the inner thoughts of these characters, giving players more of a chance to grow attached to them. The film introduced many more heroes but provided little opportunity for most of them to get any kind of development.
