One Piece Looks Back with One Second From All 1000 Episodes | CBR

A new One Piece retrospective offers a quick way to catch up on Luffy's journey.

Crunchyroll released the new video to its official YouTube video. The retrospective offers a 1 second clip for all 1000 episodes of One Piece, ranging from the series' premiere episode from 1999, all the way up to the show's 1000th episode, which will premiere on Crunchyroll and Funimation on Nov. 20 at 6:00P.M. EST. Despite only showing a single second from every episode, the video is still over fifteen minutes long, and highlights many of the key moments from the long-running series' history.

The 1000th episode of One Piece has been hyped up by the various companies involved in its production and distribution for several months. Toei Animation, which has produced the anime adaptation of Eiichiro Oda's manga epic for over twenty years, has slowly been releasing new art and teasers for the episode since the end of summer, and asked fans to send in video messages about the series. Crunchyroll and Funimation are also hosting a premiere event for the episode at this year's Anime NYC. The event will be hosted by YouTuber RogersBase on Saturday, Nov. 20 from 9:00 - 10:30 P.M. EST. Fans of the Straw Hat Pirates will also be able to put their knowledge of Luffy's adventures to the test with a trivia contest beforehand. Attendees to the special screening will also be given a limited edition One Piece 1000 challenge coin to commemorate the event.

Anime fans still have more One Piece to look forward to after the 1000th episode, as series creator Eiichiro Oda also recently announced the next animated movie in the franchise, One Piece Red. The movie will focus on the character of "Red-Haired" Shanks, the pirate captain who originally gave Luffy his straw hat and inspired him to become a pirate. Production on the movie is being supervised by Oda himself, and the film is scheduled to be released in Japan in Aug. 2022.

One Piece was created by Eiichiro Oda and was first published in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1997. In the 24 years since its original release, the series has managed to become the best selling manga series of all time, with almost half-a-billion copies in circulation worldwide. The manga published its 1000th chapter earlier this year, and its 100th collected volume this summer. Additionally, a new live-action One Piece series is in the works from Netflix, who recently revealed the actors who will portray the Straw Hat Pirate crew in the new show.
