Spider-Man: No Way Home's Tom Holland Promises Shocking Fights

With one month to go till the premiere of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe movie dropped a new trailer at a fan event in Los Angeles and New Mexico on Nov. 16. Not only did fans get to see the trailer for the first time on the big screen, but the MCU's Tom Holland arrived to answer some burning fan questions. While the Spidey star dodged spoilers, he touched on some of the themes this film will tackle, including the repercussions of revealing Peter's secret identity and how it unleashes more violence.

"I always feel like Peter Parker has had some parallel with my life," Holland shared. "It's no secret that when this happens to you, your life changes. There are certain things that you can't do anymore. This film explores the adverse effects of fame and what happens to someone, especially at a young age, how it can affect your life, for better or for worse."

The last time MCU fans saw Peter Parker, Mysterio exposed his superhero identity to the public. If Spider-Man: No Way Home's trailers are anything to go by, this has made Peter's life a living nightmare. The lack of privacy Peter faces makes a compelling parallel to the exposure famous people face, especially given his age, and how he is one of the few MCU heroes who's tried to keep his private life and hero life separate.

"I've had a wonderful experience because you guys have been so gracious and wonderful and looked after me as fans," Holland shared. "But there are some people out there who have not had the same experience. Peter Parker, unfortunately, is going through that. I always think that if you want to tell someone something, you should tell them yourself. I think when the power is taken away from you, whether it's a secret you want to tell someone, if they find out on their own, it's always so much worse. You need to be honest. If Peter Parker made an announcement like an 'I am Iron Man,' it would have been a little bit easier."

On top of discussing the themes in No Way Home, Holland touched on how this movie is a game-changer for Spider-Man, the MCU, and cinema at large. For instance, the fight choreography is something fans have yet to see Peter Parker handle at this level.

"You're going to see a style of fighting in this film that you've never seen in the Spider-Man movies before," Holland said. "That was down to our stunt coordinator, George Cottle and Jackson [Spidell]. They design these fights to shock you guys, to really put you on your back foot. When we were shooting this one scene in particular, I reckon it's a 35 beat fight scene between myself and one of the villains. We shot it over and over and over again over three or four days. I remember my knuckles were all bloody, and I was knackered, and we were fighting. It was in all fairness, it was awful. It was such a difficult time. But in the film, it's so spectacular. It is so overwhelming, and you've never seen a Peter Parker quite like it."

While cryptic, Holland mentioned there were three scenes in particular in No Way Home that many would have considered impossible to pull off until now.

"There are three scenes, and I would do anything to go back and reshoot them," Holland shared. "They're perfect, and they don't need to be reshot, but the experience on the day of being there. This true moment in cinematic history is about to come true, and we were there on the day making it happen. It was crazy. When they first pitched me the movie, I was like, 'That's never gonna work. There's no way you're gonna be able to get that done.' They did, and they did an amazing job."

The MCU is in an interesting place right now, and Spider-Man is stuck in the middle of it as the multiverse unravels around him. He proves that anything is possible in a post-Endgame world. While it already seems like the recent No Way Home trailer showed some of its biggest twists -- twists once thought to be a pipe dream like bringing the Green Goblin into the MCU -- Holland assured fans that there is so much more in store.

"You make these films, and you're so attached to it," Holland said. "You give your heart and soul, and you dedicate your life to this character. To see it play out on the big screen is so rewarding, and to see your reaction means that we're doing something right. Trust me when I say that this is the tip of the iceberg."

Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters on Dec. 17.
