WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Supergirl Season 6, Episode 20, "Kara," which aired Tuesday November 9th on The CW.
With part one of the series finale setting the stakes, part two of the Supergirl finale, titled "Kara," sees the end of the conflict between Lex Luthor, Nyxly and the Super Friends. Part one ended with Lex and Nyxly each obtaining a fragment of the Allstone and using its power to battle across National City. Lex and Lena's mother Lillian was gravely injured during the conflict, and was brought back to the Tower.
The episode opens on Lena watching the news and seeing humanity suffer under the effects of the Allstone. Lillian speaks with Lena and reveals she knows about Lena and her birth mother's magic powers. She tried to push Lena away from magic as a child so she could become a Luthor. In a rare moment of selflessness, Lillian tells Lena to embrace her magic and break free from the Luthor family.
Supergirl returns to the Tower and reveals her plan: to work with humanity as partners instead of as heroes to re-empower them and take away the Allstone's power. Brainy recommends using his Legion crown to connect to humanity psychically. Lena walks in and tells the team of Lillian's passing, happy she received some peace with Lillian before her death.
Lena uses her magic to help break down humanity's natural mental defenses so that they will hear Supergirl's message. The plan and Supergirl's speech work, as humans regain their lost innate elements and Lex and Nyxly lose a portion of their power. The Super Friends go to confront the villains, though Nyxly and Lex summon dream monsters and villains from the past like Red Tornado to fight them.
The conflict wages around National City, with Supergirl's battle against Lex and an Overgirl copy taking her to CatCo. Just as she's about to get hit Mon-El flies in to block the blast, telling Kara her speech made the history books. Winn arrives with a future ship, taking down one of the dream monsters. The final guest star James Olsen arrives in time to save his sister, both Guardians together at last.
Acrata shows up to save Lena from Lex, taking her friend's words about making a change to heart. Most surprising is Alex's mom arriving with a shotgun to aid the Super Friends. Even Mitch changes sides, deciding he's through with his toxic relationship with Nyxly.
With the full might of the Super Friends assembled, it looks like the tide of battle has turned. In retaliation, Lex opens a portal to the Phantom Zone to summon Phantoms to Earth. Undeterred, the citizens of National City arrive to support the heroes in their fight. A wave of Phantoms arrives on Earth and target Lex and Nyxly instead of the heroes due to the Phantoms focusing on the duo's fear, covered by their hubris.
Lex and Nyxly are dragged away into the Phantom Zone as the crowd cheers. The scene then changes to a touching funeral scene for William Dey with all the Super Friends and Andrea in attendance. Andrea decides to set up an award in William's honor.
J'onn receives a phone call from the President about reconstituting the DEO. Alex and Lena are a bit hesitant due to the red tape that comes with being in the DEO. Kara counters by stating there's plenty of work left to do as civil servants working to better humanity, something that hits home with the team.
Mon-El and Kara speak before his return to the future. Mon-El reveals he'll likely never return to that time period due to the amount of work he'll have to do once Brainy merges with the Big Brain. Brainy and Nia share a final tender moment where Brainy calls Nia the girl of his dreams. Sharing one last kiss goodbye with Nia, Brainy returns to the future with Mon-El and Winn.
Later, Kara watches the news in her apartment and sees people working together to solve minor crises. Just then she receives a call from none other than Cat Grant. The former CEO of CatCo tells Kara she repurchased CatCo in order to use the press to make proper change in the world. She hires Kara as her new editor-in-chief, to the Girl of Steel's surprise.
Alex goes to Kara's apartment and talk about Cat's offer. Kara states she's not taking the offer as she feels deflated and does not want her attention split again between Supergirl and Kara. Alex reminds her sister that she no longer has to shoulder the burden of protecting the planet on her own.
Kara is still unsure, though Alex encourages her to follow her heart, knowing she will make the right choice. The two share a loving sisterly moment on Kara's couch that serves as an excellent look at how much Kara and Alex have been through together as sisters.
The day of Alex and Kelly's wedding arrives, with all their friends in attendance. Alex wears a dashing white suit while Kelly sports a lovely white wedding dress, both dressed to impress for their big day. James surprises Kelly with an upgraded signal watch as a wedding gift, so that the siblings can always be there for each other.
The surprises keep coming as Brainy shows up to the wedding, deciding to pursue his love for Nia and trusting in their ability to shape the future together. The wedding begins as Kara and Winn sing a beautiful rendition of "We Belong" by Pat Benatar. Esme performs her duty as her moms' flower girl, followed by James walking Kelly down to Alex as the two women exchange loving smiles.
J'onn officiates their wedding, giving a beautiful speech about the love Alex and Kelly share. The brides-to-be exchange their vows and become wives, cheered on by their friends and family. Following the ceremony, the Super Friends celebrate as Winn and J'onn discuss the new DEO. Winn drops a pleasant bomb on J'onn as he reveals J'onn and M'gann will have a son.
Esme bonds with her Uncle Jimmy, as the seasoned reporter gives Esme her very own camera. Kelly and Alex ask Lena to be Esme's godmother in a heartfelt moment, with Lena happily accepting. The good news keeps coming as Winn reveals Mxy is alive and well.
Winn sits down with Kara and James and they talk about their past adventures as the O.G. Super Friends. Kara receives another call from Cat and Kara subtly explains her hesitancy due to her double life. Cat reveals she knows Kara is Supergirl and tells her former employee that Kara can accomplish so much more by abandoning her double life.
Back at the celebration, Nia uses her powers to catch the bouquet. Lena notices Kara is upset and goes over to talk with her. Kara talks about her fear in living her own life as her authentic self as she reflects on how much her double life has hindered her. Lena tells Kara she has to live her life for herself just as Lena has learned to do.
The two share a hug as both thank the other for making each other better people. They and the others see Alex and Kelly off at the end of their party. Making her choice, Kara removes her glasses and joins the others as J'onn telepathically flies the newlywed's car away.
The scene then cuts to one final game night at Kara's apartment. As the Super Friends have a great time playing charades, Cat Grant appears on the news. The finale and series end with Kara revealing her identity as Supergirl to the world, finally living as her full, authentic self with her friends and family by her side.
