Two new action figures based on the main characters from the critically acclaimed The Last of Us Part II are set for release next year.
Ellie and Joel are being brought to life once again, but this time as figurines courtesy of NECA. The collectibles manufacturer unveiled the two 7" scale action figures from The Last of Us Part II as part of its "31 Nights of Fright" collection, as it celebrates famous characters and monsters from horror movies, TV shows and video games. Set for release in March 2022, The Ultimate Joel and Ellie 2-pack is currently available for pre-order from various online retailers for around $75.
NECA also released a horde of images showcasing the collection in all its glory. The action figures come with a host of accessories, including interchangeable hands that allow the mini TLOU protagonists to wield a whole arsenal of weaponry. Much like their video game counterparts, Ellie and Joel are packing some serious heat and ready to take on any pint-sized clickers.
NECA's product description reads:
- In The Last of Us Part II, players experience the devastating physical and emotional consequences of Ellie’s vengeance as she embarks on a relentless pursuit of those who’ve wronged her. This Ultimate action figure 2-pack includes Ellie, who has a mysterious immunity to the zombie infection, and Joel, the smuggler-turned-father-figure who was initially tasked with escorting her across a post-apocalyptic America in the first game.
- Each figure has over 30 points of articulation and comes with screen-accurate accessories: include axe, machetes, rifles, knives, pistols, backpack and bow and arrows, plus interchangeable hands. Collector-friendly window box packaging with dual front opening flaps.
Developed by Naughty Dog, The Last of Us is a post-apocalyptic action-adventure game released exclusively to PlayStation 3 in 2013. The game earned widespread praise from critics and gamers alike, and its success led to a remaster for PlayStation 4 in 2014. That same year, Naughty Dog began development on a sequel, and six years later, The Last of Us Part II was released, becoming the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive of all time.
HBO is currently producing a television adaptation of The Last of Us, which is expected to premiere sometime in 2022. Neil Druckman, a writer and director for the two games, is on writing duties for the series alongside Craig Mazin, best known for creating another HBO show, Chernobyl. The HBO connection doesn't end there, though, as Game of Thrones alumni Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey will star as Joel and Ellie, respectively.
