Uncharted Left Tom Holland With Numerous Injuries | CBR

Tom Holland discussed his experience shooting the highly anticipated Uncharted film, stating, "that film absolutely broke me."

"I never realized how lucky I am that Spider-Man wears a mask, because when he's bouncing around and flying from buildings, that's all CG. In Uncharted it's just me in a henley and cargo pants," Holland, who is best known for his role as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, told GQ. He revealed the demanding nature of Uncharted's training schedule, noting, "I was going to the gym in the morning like, 'Oh, my God, I've must have torn something in my leg,' and the guys were like, 'You haven't, you're just tired and you're getting older.'"

Uncharted sees Holland starring as Nathan Drake, a professional treasure hunter and the film's protagonist. The film, which was first announced in 2008, is an adaptation of the award-winning video game series by the same name. Holland already teased that the action sequences in the film will be some of the biggest he has ever been in, a promise that the first Uncharted trailer keeps.

Holland worked alongside Mark Wahlberg, who plays Drake's mentor and friend Victor "Sully" Sullivan. Holland described Wahlberg as twice his size, touching on how that experience prompted him to spend the next five months eating and training while in lockdown. "When I got back on set, the first thing he [Wahlberg] said to me was, 'Wow, somebody has been training,'" Holland said.

Holland also revealed that the preparation for Uncharted was more than just physical training. He worked in a high-end hotel bar in central London, the Chiltern Firehouse, mixing cocktails and learning trick pours, to get into gear for Drake, who will have scenes as a bartender.

Given that Spider-Man: No Way Home marks the conclusion of Holland's contract with Marvel, he has been branching out into different film genres, with movies such as 2021's Cherry under his belt. Holland also expressed his interest in playing James Bond if the franchise ever takes on a new 007. He said, "As a young British lad who loves cinema, I’d love to be James Bond."

Directed by Ruben Fleischer and starring Tom Holland, Antonio Banderas, Mark Wahlberg and Sophia Ali, Uncharted will premiere in theaters on Feb. 18, 2022.
