Walking Dead, FNAF & More Oculus Quest 2 Horror Titles for After RE4 VR

Now that Resident Evil 4 VR on Oculus Quest 2 has been released and completed, players may be wondering how they will receive their next virtual reality fright. Thanks to Resident Evil 4 VR, players could relive the 2005 action-horror game from a whole new perspective. Despite being from the GameCube era, critics and fans alike have praised this iteration of the game for reshaping their view of the original content and offering a fresh perspective on what is disputably the best Resident Evil game in the series.

But now that Leon Kennedy has survived the adventure, what is next for VR horror enthusiasts? Games on Oculus Quest 2 come in all shapes and sizes, and browsing through its lengthy catalog of games can be quite time-consuming. Luckily, there are several titles on the Oculus Quest 2 that are ready to test the mettle of players as they scratch and claw their way through virtual reality.

Faced with the zombie apocalypse that The Walking Dead is famous for, Saint & Sinners asks players to shoot, loot and hack their way through a zombified New Orleans. Along the way, Saints & Sinners forces players to test their morals and make difficult decisions that will determine who lives and who dies. There are numerous ways to survive the ordeal, including sneaking around enemies or simply murdering everything and anything that looks hungry. As the title alludes to, players can be saints or sinners in the town of New Orleans, showing empathy towards other characters or simply taking what they want by force. Spatial awareness adds another layer of complexity to the game, as players will have to be mindful of the noises they make as not to attract any unwanted attention.

Erring on the side of horror rather than action, Affected: The Manor invites players to explore -- and escape -- a spooky manor. If Resident Evil 4 VR wasn't scary enough, Affected: The Manor will have players jumping out of their skin in no time. The Complete Edition is relatively cheap compared to Resident Evil 4 VR, coming in at only $9.99, and comes with the game's original haunted house walk-through experience, as well as two additional modes. The Gauntlet mode is a speed run that ranks how long it took a player to escape and how many times they screamed throughout the experience. The DARKNESS mode has players walking through the manor with nothing but a candle, fueling the fire for further scares. As the first game in an upcoming trilogy, now is the perfect time to step into this series.

Lies Beneath has a unique design that puts players into a comic book-esque world, complete with chapters, special effects and story beats that indicate the medium. Mae, a college student, returns home to Slumber, Alaska, where she has to fight through horrors to save her father, as well as protect her sanity. Not only is Mae facing evil personified, but she works to fight her past personal demons as well, creating a deeper story than what lies upon the surface of Lies Beneath. The cell-shading employed by the game gives it a unique feel, making it stand out against other games on the VR market. Its unique aesthetic combined with its injection of action elements makes it a fun follow-up to running, gunning and puzzle-solving in Resident Evil 4 VR.

Gamers of all ages, especially fans of jumpscares, should have heard of the Five Nights at Freddy's series by now. The original game takes place in a children's pizzeria where living animatronics stalk the halls at night; the player has to survive the night shift for five nights. Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted is here to say that all the stories about their brand are fabricated delusions of a lunatic, and Fazbear Entertainment made this VR game to poke fun at the idea of haunted fast-food pizza. Help Wanted is arguably the most fleshed-out, scariest entry in the series, recreating the first four games of the series in VR and adding extra game modes that are new to the series. Veterans of the series will find heaps to love here, but it is also a great starting point for newcomers who want to have a fright.

Although After The Fall hasn't come to retail yet, it looks to be the next biggest zombie-killing gorefest on Oculus Quest 2. Set in a world where the Earth froze over in the 1980s, the survivors of LA have to murder hordes of what they call the "Snowbreed," loot what they can from the corpses and survive in a harsh winter environment. Vertigo Games, best known for another VR title, Arizona Sunshine, takes a lot of inspiration from the Left 4 Dead series and creates a co-op survival experience for up to four players. Players who are still working their way through every nook and cranny of Resident Evil 4 VR have a little more time to save the president's daughter, as After The Fall doesn't release until December 9, 2021.
