Dragon Age 4 Will Be Single-Player, Reassures Bioware | CBR

Bioware reassures long-time Dragon Age fans that the highly anticipated fourth entry in the series will be a single-player-focused experience.

During the celebration of Dragon Age Day, a fan-made event celebrating the franchise's history, Bioware posted a brief thank you message to fans of the fantasy RPG on their official website. As part of the post, the developer confirms that it is still working on the fourth mainline game. "Speaking of building new-worlds and stories for you to explore, we want to let you all know that we're still hard at work on building the next single-player-focused experience for Dragon Age."

While Bioware didn't share specific details on the ongoing development for Dragon Age 4, it also teased that more information might be reaching fans soon. "We're excited for next year when we can talk more about what we're working on," it wrote. No confirmation or denial was given regarding recent claims that the latest entry for the Dragon Age series might only be available for next-gen consoles and PC.

Bioware went on to conclude its message by announcing the release of two short stories from the writers of Dragon Age Inquisition, Brianne Battye and Sylvia Feketekuty. The first story is "Won't Know When," which covers a moment between two Grey Wardens as they contemplate their future and the danger they face in their violent line of work. The second story, "The Flame Eternal," captures the tale of two necromancers who seek to put a disturbed soul to rest.

The last mainline entry in Bioware’s epic fantasy saga was Dragon Age Inquisition which was released in 2014. It is the third major game in the franchise and serves as a sequel to Dragon Age II. Players are given the role of the titular Inquisitor, the only person capable of closing the rifts that have begun to appear across the fictional continent of Thedas. Dragon Age Inquisition was received positively by fans and critics who praised the game's satisfying combat, colorful visuals and monumental world-building. It won Game of the Year and Best RPG at The Game Awards 2014.

Dragon Age Inquisition is available for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC. The upcoming entry into the franchise, Dragon Age 4, will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
