Batwoman Confirms Robin Exists in the Arrowverse | CBR

SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for "What Happened to Kate Kane?", the Batwoman Season 2 premiere.

Batman's faithful sidekick Robin got another honorable mention in "What Happened to Kate Kane?", the Batwoman Season 2 premiere. During a car chase with Ryan Wilder, the new Scarlet Knight, Tommy "Hush" Elliot referenced the Boy Wonder when he sang a familiar tune.

Following the events of the Season 1 finale, which saw Alice turn Elliot into a Bruce Wayne lookalike, he strolled right into Wayne Tower like he owned the place. He used Kate's disappearance to explain why Bruce had resurfaced after all this time and even made it into the Batcave before anyone realized something was amiss. It wasn't until Julia Pennyworth discovered he didn't recognize their codename for her father Alfred that they knew Elliot was an imposter.

By that time, however, it was too late. Elliot had used the Batcave to track down Ryan's location so that he could take the suit from her and use it to become Batman. What's worse, he had found the Batmobile, which brought him directly to Ryan while she was blissfully unaware of who and what he was.

Fortunately, Luke and Mary were able to use the Batsuit's comms system to get in touch with Ryan and warn her of Elliot's mission. She immediately leapt into the seat of her van and took off, but Elliot was already hot on her heels. He reveled in the chase, fully aware that the Batmobile was more than equipped to overtake Ryan's van.

As he gave chase, Elliot sang a familiar little tune to himself. "Jingle bells, Batman smells, Robin laid an egg!" he crowed, toggling with the Batmobile's weapons system.

Fortunately, Luke was able to use the Batcave to override the Batmobile's system and bring him to a dead stop. This bought Ryan enough time to put on the Batsuit, leading to a face-off between her and Gotham's resident Bruce Wayne impostor. Although Elliot managed to shoot her with the Kryptonite bullet, he merely wounded her instead of killing her. Despite the injury to her shoulder, she was able to physically overcome him and used her martial arts training to beat the flesh mask right off his face.

Of course, Elliot's little car chase theme holds some wider implications for the Arrowverse. This explicit reference to Robin further asserts the character's presence in the Arrowverse, although we have yet to see the character on screen in any capacity. Notably, Robin was namedropped before in the Season 1 episode "The Rabbit Hole," where Vesper Fairchild joked that Batman had disappeared because he was off attending Robin's graduation. It is unclear where Robin has disappeared to since Batman left Gotham City or which Robin this refers to, as five exist in DC Comics continuity.

Airing Sundays at 8 pm ET/PT on The CW, Batwoman stars Javicia Leslie as Ryan Wilder, Rachel Skarsten as Alice, Meagan Tandy as Sophie Moore, Camrus Johnson as Luke Fox, Dougray Scott as Jacob Kane and Nicole Kang as Mary Hamilton-Kane.
