Hunter X Hunter: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Neferpitou | CBR

As villains go, Neferpitou from Hunter x Hunter is probably one of the most fascinating — they are a feline-based Chimera Ant whose role, ascertained prior to birth, is that of being one of the three Royal Guards of the Ant King, Meruem. They wear a navy blue coat with pinstriped half-pants and socks, and their knees resembled those of a puppet: disjointed.

The one core drive is activated the second Meruem emerges from his "cocoon", and they spend the rest of their life (as short as it turns out to be) serving and trying their hardest to protect him. Neferpitou is most certainly one of the strongest characters in the show, given that Gon needs to tap into his future potential to even have a chance against them.

10 Their Gender Is Ambiguous

Neferpitou is the only character in the series whose gender has not been confirmed nor clarified in any way. In the official databook, they are called 彼, which is a male pronoun.

Similarly, Neferpitou also identifies with "boku," a Japanese pronoun that is commonly employed by young males. At the same time, their physical features are stereotypically feminine, including their voice, anatomy, and so on. As such, to avoid confusion, any references to Neferpitou do not have a gender association.

9 They Possess Incredible En Aura

Neferpitou's En, the spherical aura that permits the caster to perceive the presence and motion of everything that occurs inside their physical limits, is ridiculously large.

Interestingly, it is not shaped like a circle but instead appears in the form of tentacles, each of which is as long as a mile or more. In addition, Neferpitou possesses the ability to alter the structure of their En aura, thereby increasing the efficacy of their surveillance.

8 They Don't Recognize The Queen At All

The Chimera Ant Queen gives birth to Neferpitou before the other two Royal Guards, Menthuthuyoupi and Shaiapouf, and is even given their appellation by their mother.

At first, they display a great deal of care towards the Ant Queen, including providing her with Nen-rich food, but only to ensure that Meruem would be birthed as strong and powerful as he is meant to be. The Ant King's violent delivery severely injures his mother, but Neferpitou doesn't even bother to fix her wounds using their powers.

7 They Can Create Human Puppets

One of the most horrifying techniques used in the story is Neferpitou's manipulation ability — they produce a demonic "puppeteer" that is capable of controlling the body movements of others, although it's most likely only feasible on dead bodies.

Furthermore, they are able to closely supervise their human mannequins, which has the added effect of expanding their surveillance space.

6 They Scare Even Netero

When Morel and Netero spy on Neferpitou for the first time, they are instantly aware of the tremendous amount of power the enemy possesses. In fact, the Chairman even states that the feline Royal Guard is far more powerful than he is, although his companion believes that he's only exaggerating.

While this is partly true, the fact that Netero does not engage Neferpitou in combat, but instead swats them a great distance away, suggests his certainty that battling them would not be a simple task.

5 Their Reflexes Are Unparalleled

Upon discovering Gon, Killua, and Kite trespassing into the zone covered by their En, Neferpitou jumps a couple of miles before any of them can react in time, and manages to chop the older Hunter's arm off.

More impressively, though, is when they try to take on Netero as he plummets towards the Royal Palace. Obviously, Neferpitou is incapable of actually defeating the old man, but the fact that they can perceive a fraction of the old man's hand movements is an indication of their own reflexive skill.

4 They Are The Only One Who Likes Komugi

Neferpitou's compatriots, Youpi and Shaiapouf, care about Meruem as much as they do, but their love does not extend to Komugi. The feline Royal Guard, on the other hand, comprehends the intensity of feeling their beloved Ant King exhibits towards his Gungi opponent.

In fact, they happily agree to restore Komugi back to health, which is why they are terrified when Gon appears to take revenge for Kite's killing. As Neferpitou says, "She means that much. All I want is for her to live."

3 Their Overwhelming Scientific Genius

As with all the higher level Chimera Ants, Neferpitou is born with most of their awareness already present within their consciousness.

To enhance their knowledge, they read textbooks and other academic documents, learning about neuroscience to such a degree that they can control brains from outside. It is this trait that permits the development of their medical doll, Doctor Blythe, that can conduct surgeries successfully on a wide variety of patients.

2 Their Doctor Blythe Doll Can Heal Wounds & Injuries

As stated above, Doctor Blythe is a specialization Nen construct: it comes forth as an enormous floating "nurse," and is furnished with innumerable forms of surgical and therapeutic apparatus. It can treat almost anything, from minor cuts and bruises to reconnect dismembered limbs in the span of a couple of hours.

Another useful aspect of Doctor Blythe is its absolute rigidity in space; this means that it will not budge from its initial position (Neferpitou uses this to stop flying backward as a consequence of Netero's attack).

1 They Survive Their Final Battle (Incorporeally)

Gon's rage is entirely justified, but the manner in which he takes it out on Neferpitou emits strong villain vibes. Nevertheless, he gets what he comes for: the Royal Guard smashed into pieces.

However, the utter fealty they display for their lord and master forces their Terpsichora to emerge, a final post-death blow attempt to salvage their mistakes. Luckily for Gon, Killua arrives just in time to get him away from the attack path, thereby saving all of him except one arm.
