Fatal Attraction, Flashdance and The Italian Job are among five new series set to debut on Paramount+.
The streaming network announced the trio of shows at its Investor Day event this week, along with new series adaptations of Love Story and The Parallax View, according to THR.
"My job is to find Paramount+ The Handmaid's Tale, the Mad Men, The Walking Dead -- the show that helps define them," Paramount Television President Nicole Clemons recently told the outlet. "It's really ambitious and it's an offering that is going to be incredibly appealing and compelling to people who are in the market for another streamer."
The series adaptation of Fatal Attraction is described by Paramount as a reimagining of the 1987 thriller that starred Glenn Close and Michael Douglas. The new version will be told through the lens of modern women dealing with personality disorders, victim shaming and coercive control. Alexandra Cunningham and Kevin Hynes, who previously worked together on Dirty John, have signed on to pen the script. The duo will also executive produce alongside Amblin Television's Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank.
Based on the 1983 feature, the upcoming Flashdance series has been in development since October 2020 and will focus on a present-day Black woman who is struggling to make her mark in the ballet world. Original Flashdance associate producer Lynda Obst is set to executive produce a script penned by Tracy McMillan (Good Girls Revolt).
Meanwhile, The Italian Job series is based on the Michael Caine-starring 1969 action film, which was remade in 2003 with Mark Wahlberg and Charlize Theron. The new series will revolve around the grandchildren of Charlie Croker (Caine/Wahlberg), who inherit his old safety deposit box and reboot the journey for the infamous Italian bullion.
Love Story will be based on Erich Segal's novel and the 1970 film of the same name, which starred Ali MacGraw and Ryan O'Neal. "From the main title theme to the class conflict and classic American style, Love Story is truly iconic," executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage said in a joint statement. "We’re beyond excited to update it for the next generation, and to be working again with Nicole and the Paramount Television Studios team as well our friends at CBS Television Studios."
The fifth series currently in the works at Paramount+ is The Parallax View, which is based on the 1974 film from David Giler and Lorenzo Semple Jr. The scripted series will revolve around a reporter's investigation into the Parallax Corp., a secretive organization that specializes in political assassination.
CBS All Access will relaunch as Paramount+ on March 4. It was previously announced that prequel series Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies and a making-of The Godfather entry called The Offer are also in the works for release on the refreshed platform.
