Godzilla vs. Kong Ad Showcases the Giant Ape's Lizard-Killing Ax

A "Mad" King Kong wields a new weapon against his reptilian adversary, which gives him a massive edge in battle in 2021's Godzilla vs. Kong.

The kaiju-packed television spot was shared on Kaiju News Outlet's Twitter, featuring Kong descending into the Hollow Earth. There, Kong finds a massive ax with its blade forged out of one of Godzilla's dorsal fins. Other footage showcases Kong breaking the chains that Monarch has placed him in, and Godzilla firing a massive atomic blast into the ground.

Previously, Kong's massive ax has been spotlighted in international posters and action figures. Godzilla vs. Kong's first official trailer even showed Kong's ax being able to block Godzilla's atomic breath. Producer Alex Garcia confirmed that Godzilla vs. Kong will expand on the history of Hollow Earth while Monarch attempts to stem the Titans' rampage by driving them back underground.

In addition to Godzilla and Kong battling for supremacy, the film's final trailer revealed that Mechagodzilla will be a part of the fight. Also, the film's final trailer revealed that Monarch's rival organization Apex is constructing a weapon using the remains of King Ghidorah -- who director Adam Wingard has said will "haunt" the film.

Legends collide in Godzilla vs. Kong as these mythic adversaries meet in a spectacular battle for the ages, with the fate of the world hanging in the balance. Kong and his protectors undertake a perilous journey to find his true home, and with them is Jia, a young orphaned girl with whom he has formed a unique and powerful bond. But they unexpectedly find themselves in the path of an enraged Godzilla, cutting a swath of destruction across the globe. The epic clash between the two titans -- instigated by unseen forces -- is only the beginning of the mystery that lies deep within the core of the Earth.

Directed by Adam Wingard and written by Eric Pearson and Max Borenstein, Godzilla vs. Kong stars Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall and Brian Tyree Henry. The film arrives in theaters and on HBO Max on March 31.
