WWE's Bray Wyatt Goes Full Joker in His Feud With Randy Orton

Ever since returning to WWE in 2019 as "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt, the former leader of The Wyatt Family has brought the weird back to WWE. The Joker has been an obvious inspiration behind the gimmick, particularly once Alexa Bliss teamed up with Wyatt and became his Harley Quinn. For what may be the first time, The Fiend has now made a direct reference to the Clown Prince of Crime.

Bray Wyatt took to Twitter with a quote often attributed to the Joker, which was aimed directly at Randy Orton. The words were accompanied by a photo of Orton and Wyatt from years ago when Bray was a member of the Nexus and went by the name Husky Harris. This tense moment ended with Orton hitting Harris/Wyatt with his trademarked punt. The kayfabe injury was used to write him off television and send Wyatt back to FCW for further development.

The quote is frequently associated online with Heath Ledger's Joker from The Dark Knight, though the character never actually said those exact words in the film. More recently, it's been connected to Joaquin Phoenix's iteration of the Joker. The line does not appear in that film, either. Regardless of who spoke the phrase, the words are still very relevant to this wrestling feud and do connect back to Joker in an indirect fashion.

Wyatt's run as The Fiend has had a consistent undercurrent of him settling old scores with anyone who has wronged him in the past. That has included Randy Orton, a wrestler that Wyatt has a long history with. Their last match happened at TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs in December 2020 and ended with Orton burning The Fiend alive in the ring. Wyatt only recently returned at Fastlane on March 21 and their feud will continue at WrestleMania 37.

WrestleMania will take place Saturday, April 10 and Sunday, April 11 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay and stream live exclusively on Peacock in the United States and on WWE Network everywhere else.
