10 Anime Healers Who Are Scary In A Fight | CBR

Oftentimes, the stereotype of a healer is of a soft-spoken, supportive character whose sole wish is for the wellbeing and prosperity of their friends. In theory, their gentle nature is supposed to translate through their vocation and into their personality.

However, this is often not the case. Many anime medics are capable of unleashing total calamity to those who would endanger them or their friends. By identifying the most deadly healers one could face, we can better appreciate how they can inflict wounds just as easily as they might mend them.

10 Unohana Isn't As Defenseless As She Presents Herself (Bleach)

Unohana was the Soul Society's resident healer and the leader of her own division. Her allies depended on her for salvation, and she was oftentimes both willing and ready to oblige them.

However, the captain's matronly nature belies her unfathomable power. She was one of the few characters strong enough to pose a challenge against Kenpachi Zaraki and match his ferocity in battle. Unohana uses her hair to hide the scars that she received from conflict, illustrating her familiarity with violence.

9 Sakura Was A Powerhouse Who Defeated Sasori (Naruto)

Though Sakura was initially Team Seven's weakest member, she came into her own during Shippuden. Through carefully distributing and controlling chakra, she augmented her physical strength to superhuman levels.

Not only was Sakura the only member of the Konoha 11 aside from Naruto and Shikamaru to defeat an Akatsuki member, she even contended with powerful villains such as Madara and Kaguya Otsutsuki. Though her healing has saved allies on a number of occasions (including Uzumaki and Kankuro), she is just as proficient in battle, especially due to the hundred healings seal that she can release from her forehead.

8 Chopper's Many Forms Made Him A Fearsome Warrior (One Piece)

Chopper was the Straw Hat crew's doctor and a reindeer with a childlike disposition. Though he generally prefers to avoid fighting and conflict, he is more than capable of holding his own if such circumstances become necessary.

This was proven through the battle for Enies Lobby, where he fought the meandering CP9 agent Kumadori. By accessing his monster point, he became a towering juggernaut strong enough to launch his opponent across the entire island in a single punch. Chopper's many other forms allow for a versatile fighting style, including his arm and walk points.

7 Giorno's Requiem Made Him Unbeatable (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)

After evolving his Stand into "Gold Experience Requiem," Giorno Giovanna literally became invincible. He was capable of reverting any damage sustained to the property of "zero" - in other words, erasing it as if it had never existed.

Even before unlocking this ability, the son of DIO proved to be formidable. He would oftentimes use his healing as an offensive utility, such as through his battle against Cioccolata, where he transmuted a projectile already lodged in the villain's shoulder. If not for his intelligence and alacrity, Bucciarati's team never would have defeated Diavolo.

6 Overhaul Could Kill (Or Heal) Others In The Blink Of An Eye (My Hero Academia)

Though Overhaul is not typically thought of as a healer, his quirk allows him to mend his allies' wounds with a single touch. This was proven through his duel with Rappa, where he killed and healed him repeatedly to illustrate his power.

The Yakuza boss's offense is becoming of his station. In addition to being able to kill his enemies instantly, he can also create massive earthen spikes by which to skewer them alive. This skill was proven through his battle against Mirio.

5 Machi Was The Phantom Troupe's Makeshift Medic (Hunter X Hunter)

Machi was the makeshift "healer" for the Phantom Troupe, able to mend the amputated body parts of her comrades through a meticulous usage of Nen stitches and threads. This was primarily observed through her service to Hisoka, who has since defected from the organization.

Despite the woman's duties as a medic, she is also a formidable warrior. She helped to protect her comrades during the chimera ant invasion of Meteor City, evincing her competence to protect herself.

4 Father Was The Godlike Leader Of The Homunculus (Fullmetal Alchemist)

Though Father is often defined by his many children, godlike power, and ability to destroy (especially during the climax of the anime), he is a surprisingly capable healer. When the Elric brothers were brought before him, he mended Edward's wounds and even restored Alphonse's arm.

His affinity for healing is hardly surprising since the villain was capable of reincarnation itself. This was proven through how he distilled Greed down to his essence and implanted him in Ling Yao's body.

3 Gloxinia's Chastiefol Makes Him A Perfect Partner For Drole (Seven Deadly Sins)

Drole and Gloxinia were excellent accomplices due to how their powers complemented one another. Whenever Meliodas would rip off the giant's limbs, his fairy comrade would be nearby to heal them with his chastiefol.

The former king of fairies was an equally talented fighter. He killed Rou in seconds and held off Chandler (the mentor of Meliodas himself) while the Sins escaped. Though he would ultimately perish at the hand of the latter, Gloxinia's gambit would not have been nearly as successful without the prowess he commanded.

2 Doctor Stylish Was A Brilliant Surgeon Who Could Become A Monster (Akame Ga Kill!)

Doctor Stylish was the surgeon for the Empire and a brilliantly gifted man. After Sheele cut off Seryu Ubiquitous' arms, he created deadly prosthetics that allowed the woman not only to continue her service to her nation but also to become stronger than before.

During his final moments against Night Raid, Stylish transformed into a towering monstrosity that was nearly impossible to defeat. Unfortunately for him, the heroes identified the weak spot that had yet to be transmuted, capitalizing on it and bringing the giant down.

1 Tsunade Was A War Veteran Who Stood Against Madara (Naruto)

Tsunade was a powerful Sannin and the Fifth Hokage of the Leaf Village. She played an invaluable role in the Second and Fourth shinobi wars, saving Jiraiya's life and defying Madara respectively.

Like Sakura, her physical strength and hundred healings sigil both make her a formidable shinobi. She was strong enough to crack a Susanoo with her bare hands and even defeated the Fourth Raikage in an arm wrestle (whom many regard to be the mightiest of his village). Tsunade's medical capacities are equally astute, proven through when she healed all of Konoha during Pain's invasion.
