WARNING: This article contains spoilers for DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 6, Episode 1, "Ground Control to Sara Lance," which aired Sunday on the CW.
Legends of Tomorrow is back in full swing, following up on the Season 5 cliffhanger of Sara Lance's abduction. Season 6, Episode 1 shows the Legends post-celebration after another successful cleansing of the timeline, but they quickly realize that Sara is missing.
After a meeting with David Bowie, they find out that Sara has been abducted but are unable to find her. Since aliens are out of their jurisdiction and the DEO is out of commission, the Legends are left completely alone.
Meanwhile, out in deep space, Sara Lance wakes up in a cryogen chamber, unsure of where she is. She finds an imprisoned Spartacus, and with his 'help' she's able to learn more about her surroundings and escape before she is frozen over. She finds two unknown aliens who were responsible for her kidnapping and wants to learn more before attacking, but Spartacus disagrees with her plans and charges toward the aliens, causing one of them to devour him with ease. Sara uses her assassin training to cleverly tackle the other as it's alone, and with a metal rod in hand she demands the alien to reveal why it kidnapped her. The alien hesitantly places a pair of glasses on himself, revealing that he's none other than Gary Green, former agent of the Time Bureau and friend of the Legends.
The reveal explains a lot about the oddball who stated that he was sent to Earth to kidnap the quintessential human. While Sara believed it to be Spartacus, Gary corrects her, revealing that it is Sara who is considered the quintessential human amongst his race. This makes sense as Sara is a paragon and has survived more situations than most humans will ever experience. However, Gary was unable to achieve his mission as he fell in love with Sara, Ava and all of humanity. This forced Kayla, his boss and fiancée, to kidnap Sara herself.
Sara is able to fully escape her imprisonment with the help of Gary by opening a temporal wormhole, which could give the Legends a chance to rescue her. Gary distracts Kayla by warning her that Sara escaped, which coaxes her to the prison chamber and gives Sara the opportunity to throw Kayla out into space as Gary opens the wormhole. This sends Kayla and countless other alien prisoners spreading across time, which ultimately gives the Legends their mission for Season 6: Protect the timeline from aliens.
Unfortunately, Sara and Gary are unable to get to the wormhole in time, leaving Sara still separated from the Waverider and her crew, as well her new fiancée, Ava. However, she still has hope that their paths will cross again as the Legends now have an alien expert in the form of Spooner -- not to mention a new mess to clean.
DC's Legends of Tomorrow stars Caity Lotz, Dominic Purcell, Nick Zano, Tala Ashe, Matt Ryan, Olivia Swann, Jes Macallan, Adam Tsekhman, Shayan Sobhian, Lisseth Chavez and Raffi Barsoumian. Season 6 airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
