10 Best Pokémon With Multiple Forms | CBR

There are few franchises that have expanded in as many ways as the Pokémon series has and managed to become even more popular in the process. Pokémon has invaded all forms of media and it’s a property that’s impossible to avoid. It’s impressive that despite the many changes and updates that Pokémon has incorporated over time, it’s still more or less the same series that it was when it debuted back in the 1990s.

There are certain tenets to the franchise, like the different ways in which Pokémon evolve, that aren’t going anywhere. However, there are now many Pokémon that have several different forms that bring a whole other level of strategy into the equation.

10 Rotom Is A Literal Ghost In The Machine With Many Uses

Rotom is one of the more unique Pokémon to come around over the years and the Electric- and Ghost-type Pokémon’s different forms are actually practical in real-world applications and not just battle. Rotom’s gimmick is that it possesses household appliances and can obtain five different forms beyond his normal version that draw inspiration from washing machines, fans, heaters, and more. While it's an Electric- and Ghost-Type hybrid in its purest form, it will acquire different types depending on which household appliance it possesses.

9 Different Weather Conditions Cause Castform To Transform

It’s interesting to consider the various quality of life improvements that have been added to the Pokémon series over time, whether it’s the addition of a real-time clock, status and mood conditions, Pokémon breeding, or contrasting weather conditions. Castform is a Pokémon that takes advantage of the latter and it has four unique forms dependent upon the weather at the time. Castform’s Forecast Ability allows it to switch between Sunny, Rainy, Snowy, or its Normal form. It’s significant because it’s the first Pokémon that’s able to freely change forms like this between battles.

8 Lycanroc’s Different Forms Come Down To When The Pokémon Evolves

The Pokémon series comes up with some especially creative means behind evolution methods or how Pokémon shift into their alternate forms. Lycanroc is a Rock-type canine Pokémon that uses the time of day as its modifier between its various forms.

Lycanroc has a Midday, Dusk, and Midnight Form, all of which feature different stats, moves, and abilities, and they're far more than just aesthetic differences. Initially, these different Lycanroc were specific to what version of Pokémon was played, but Pokémon Sword & Shield rightfully makes these different Lycanroc forms triggered by what time Rockruff evolves.

7 Oricorio’s Different Forms Populate The Various Alolan Islands

There is an exhaustive amount of Bird Pokémon and so it's not surprising to see some of these Pokémon with multiple forms. Oricorio is a tropical Pokémon from Sun & Moon that has four radically different styles that are based on which Alolan Island the Pokémon is encountered on. Oricorio can also change its form by sipping the nectar from any of these different islands. Baile, Pom-Pom, Pa'u, and Sensu Style Oricorio all have contrasting types, and quite a powerful party could be built out of just different varieties of Oricorio.

6 Deoxys Is An Extraterrestrial Pokémon That Can Adapt To Any Situation

As Pokémon expands, there are more creatures that have particularly unusual origins, whether they come from outside of the planet or beyond the boundaries of time. Deoxys is an instantly memorable Pokémon because of its alien status and versatile, yet dangerous, abilities. Deoxys has four different forms that cater toward different battle stats, like Attack, Defense, and Speed. Deoxys’ first appearance in Generation III’s Hoenn region has its form determined by which version of Pokémon is played, but from Generation IV onwards, Deoxys’ form can be changed through the use of meteorites.

5 Hoopa’s Two Forms Require Commitment & Strategy To Properly Use

Hoopa is a surprisingly complicated Psychic-type Pokémon that's perfect for trainers who know how to properly strategize. Hoopa's primary form is Hoopa Confined, which is a Psychic- and Ghost-type. However, if Hoopa gets exposed to the Prison Bottle item, then it transforms into the more unpredictable Hoopa Unbound.

Hoopa Unbound is a Psychic- and Dark-type Pokémon that has different stats and moves on top of everything else. Hoopa will remain in its Unbound form until three days have passed after the use of the Prison Bottle, at which point it once again becomes Hoopa Confined.

4 Aegislash Is The Perfect Weapon That Is Built For Both Attack & Defense

One look at Aegislash and any trainer should be able to figure out that the Pokémon is a representative for the Sword and Shield iterations of the franchise even though it was first introduced in Generation VI. Aegislash looks like a living weapon, and it has both a Shield and Blade version that prioritize attack stats or defense stats. This Steel- and Ghost-type Pokémon is one of the most dangerous creatures that Generation VI has to offer. What's most impressive about Aegislash is that this shift between forms happens freely through the use of its ability, Stance Change, rather than some rare item or requirement.

3 Zygarde’s Different Forms Manifest Like A Virus

Zygarde is a unique Pokémon that begins on a cellular level, yet its different forms and possibilities are so complex that it almost feels like one needs to be a scientist to understand it all. Zygarde begins in either a Cell or Core form, which are the smallest measures of this Pokémon. However, these two bases can then mutate into either 10%, 50%, or Complete forms that demonstrate different levels of progress through Zygarde's cellular evolution. Each of these variations of Zygarde are powerful in their own ways, and they're all some of the more unconventional Dragon-type Pokémon.

2 Arceus’ Pokémon God Status Allows It To Become Any Type That It Desires

There are now nearly 1000 unique Pokémon that have been introduced and each new Generation tries to incorporate Pokémon that feel dangerous and important in new ways. Arceus debuts all the way back in Generation IV, but it has the distinguished honor of being the creator of the Pokémon universe. Arceus’ godly status allows it to transform into any other Pokémon type, which technically gives Arceus 18 different forms. Arceus can change its priorities based on which Plate and Z-Crystals are being used with it, but it’s deadly either way.

1 The Legendary Forces Of Nature Can Revert Back To Their Primal States

It's typically Legendary Pokémon that are the most powerful creatures in each region, but there's been a tendency to give these dangerous Pokémon multiple forms to further explore their significant origins. The Forces of Nature--Thundurus, Tornadus, and Landorus--are three Legendary Pokémon that begin in their Incarnate forms where they coast on clouds to intimidate other Pokémon. Exposure to a Reveal Glass turns these Pokémon into their Therian versions, which are much more primal in nature. They remain the same types, but their stats and abilities change in important ways.
