The Attack On Titan universe is no stranger to fatalities, liberally killing off villains and (more often) heroes since the beginning of its narrative. As the anime continues to progress, risks and the casualties associated with them have only grown even more insurmountable.
After Eren began the Rumbling, the body count has become nearly untenable, with dozens of characters dying in a brief span of time. By identifying the characters who have perished in the manga before the anime, we can better brace for what to expect during the final season next year.
10 Daz Was Killed By Connie During The Attack On The Yeagerist Bay
Daz was a relatively unimpressive member of the 10rth division who was enticed by the sentiments of the Yeagerist movement and joined Floch's ranks. Although Armin managed to successfully infiltrate their compound by posing as an ally, his intentions were quickly discovered, and his former comrades turned against him.
Daz attempted to rearm the bombs attached to nearby ships so that the heroes had no chance of leaving and hunting down Eren. However, Connie shot him dead before he could successfully do so.
9 Porco Was Killed During The Invasion Of Paradis
Porco fought alongside the Marleyans during the invasion of Paradis. Although his jaws provided a formidable threat, Eren was able to exhaust his titan body by connecting several devastating punches.
No longer able to return to his enhanced state, Galliard could only watch as he was consumed by Falco, who had been converted into a pure titan under the effects of Zeke's spinal fluid. However, his death would not be meaningless - through Falco's evolution into the next Jaw titan, he was able to save the lives of all other heroes and ultimately defeat Yeager.
8 Dot Pyxis Was Transformed Into A Titan & Killed By Armin
Dot Pyxis was one of Paradis' most intelligent military commanders. Like other high-ranking officials, he had the misfortune of imbibing Zeke's spinal fluid and was therefore vulnerable to become a titan at any moment.
Eventually, the Beast Titan would transform him in a desperate bid to hold off his Marleyan assailants. After Eren began the Rumbling and the pure titans had no further instructions, Dot and the other victims turned their attention toward the Eldians themselves. Fortunately, Armin was nearby to put him down before he could cause notable damage.
7 Floch Was Killed By Mikasa After Attempting To Sabotage The Heroes
Floch was the co-leader of the Yeagerist movement and among its most competent warriors. He joined the attack against the Armored and Female titans during the battle for the bay, causing severe damage before being brought down by Gabi Braun's anti-titan rifle.
Miraculously, he was able to survive the encounter and stow away on the heroes' ship. In a final bid to preserve the Eldians' future, he shot dozens of holes into the plane they intended to use to mount Eren's back and blow up the nape of his neck. Mikasa killed him immediately after realizing his presence.
6 Samuel Died Defending The Yeagerists From Armin & Connie
Samuel was another member of the 104th who sided with Floch's Yeagerists and ardently believed that Eren was the only plausible savior for Paradis. He held Connie at gunpoint during the heroes' infiltration, unwilling to murder a man he had once called comrade.
When Reiner and Annie transformed into titans and wrought havoc across the dock, Samuel was briefly distracted. Connie used this opportunity to confiscate his gun before shooting both him and Daz dead.
5 Zeke Was Decapitated By Levi Ackerman
Initially, Zeke was absorbed by the Founding Titan like many of his predecessors. After Armin entered the path and conversed with him, he was convinced to abandon his nihilism, awaken the other dormant titan users, and take the fight to Eren Yeager.
Once he manifested his body in the corporeal world and greeted the heroes as an ally, Levi promptly lunged across the battlefield and decapitated him. This was both to avenge Erwin's death and to test his hypothesis as to whether or not Eren could still use the Founder without being connected to a target with royal blood.
4 Magath Died In A Blaze Of Glory Against The Yeagerists
Theo Magath initially regarded the Eldians with extreme prejudice and derision. He believed every lie the Marleyan state espoused about them, often regarding even the Warriors as expendable.
Despite this, he displayed regret for his harmful ideology near the end of his life. With both Annie and Reiner sustaining serious injuries against the marauding Yeagerists, he volunteered to provide a distraction so that the heroes could continue their mission to take Eren down.
3 Hange Gave Their Life To Buy The Scouts Time
Hange was Erwin's replacement and the commander responsible for guiding the Scouts. When Eren led the Rumbling toward the hangar the heroes were hiding in, they volunteered to stay behind so that the others would have time to escape.
Hange was successful in bringing down one of the colossal titans by thrusting a thunder spear at its neck. The cadaver served as a makeshift blockade by which to temporarily obstruct Yeager, though the Scout would pay for their courage with their life.
2 Keith Shaddis Joined Magath's Suicide Mission Against The Yeagerists
Keith Shadis was the former instructor of the 104th division and no stranger to Yeagerist brutality. He was beaten to a pulp under the order of Floch by dozens of his own former cadets.
When Theo Magath prepared to distract the Yeagerists by embarking on a shuttle rigged with explosives, he didn't do so alone. Keith introduced himself seconds before their demise, and with his final act of heroism, he helped to procure the heroes' escape by bringing down the students who betrayed everything the Scouts once stood for.
1 Eren Yeager Was Killed By Mikasa
During the final moments of Eren's life, he fought with Armin in order to regain connection with the Rumbling and finish off what was left of humanity. While he was distracted, Mikasa destroyed his front teeth with a thunder spear and entered his mouth.
Inside, she found Yeager as a shadow of his former self. His disembodied head was supported by a long, crooked vertebrae, eyes sunken and despondent. Before she decapitated her beloved, she graced him with a final, poignant kiss to commemorate what might have been if he'd chosen a different path.
