Earlier this week, Warner Bros. released the final trailer for The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, just shy of its June 4 release.
"The court accepts the existence of God every time a witness swears to tell the truth. I think it's about time they accept the existence of the devil," says Ed Warren (played by Patrick Wilson) in the intro to this final trailer. The trailer goes on to focus strongly on the trial of Arne Johnson, a young man who claims to have been possessed by a demon while committing a horrific murder.
Like the two previous Conjuring films, The Conjuring 3 is based on real incidents investigated by real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. Arne Cheyenne Johnson, portrayed by Ruairi O'Connor in the film, was a real young man put on trial for murder in the early 1980s. Also, like in the film, the Warrens testified at Johnson's trial and even tried to perform an exorcism on him.
While The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It serves as a sequel to 2016's The Conjuring 2, it is the eighth film set in The Conjuring universe. Other films in this shared universe include 2014's Annabelle, 2017's Annabelle: Creation and 2018's The Nun. DC Comics is releasing a prequel series as well, The Conjuring: The Lover, with The Conjuring 2 writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick co-writing the series.
Directed by Michael Chaves, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It stars Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, Ruairi O'Connor, Sarah Catherine Hook and Julian Hilliard. The film arrives in theaters and on HBO Max June 4.
