The next hero costume in Marvel's Avengers is Black Widow's white suit from the superspy's first solo film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Adding to the collection of MCU-inspired costumes for Marvel's Avengers, the development team at Crystal Dynamics announced the newest outfit is inspired by Black Widow, which releases July 9. To celebrate the character's first solo film in the MCU, the white suit Black Widow dons in the movie is now available for purchase in Marvel's Avengers in-game marketplace.
The new look bears a few minor differences from the version featured in the film. Fans on Twitter were quick to point out that the character's in-game hairstyle doesn't match the long length and braids worn by the MCU character. However, the look matches the one from Black Widow in nearly every other way, paying homage to the MCU version of the character, portrayed by Scarlett Johansson since 2010's Iron Man 2.
In addition to the new costume, Marvel's Avengers is also bringing back the HARM challenge from the Red Room Takeover event, which will be available to play until July 22. The event, which first appeared in the game in May, brought with it a difficult new challenge mode in which Black Widow's former colleague Yelena Belova took over the Avengers' HARM room and turned the training space into a death trap. The limited-time event was lauded for bringing some much-needed variety to Avengers' challenge rooms, which saw widespread criticism for their repetitive gameplay.
Black Widow's white suit is the newest of a handful of recent Marvel's Avengers costumes Crystal Dynamics has brought over from the Marvel films. MCU-inspired costumes are already available in the game for Iron Man, Captain America, Hawkeye, and The Hulk. Black Widow also received her more traditional MCU black suit costume with the original arrival of the Red Room Takeover. The MCU costumes vary in their accuracy to the looks of their film counterparts. Like with Black Widow, Hawkeye's hairstyle matches his other in-game costumes more closely than the MCU character portrayed by Jeremy Renner.
The MCU-inspired costumes are the newest pieces of post-launch content for Marvel's Avengers, which utilizes the games-as-a-service model. The game's next major expansion is War for Wakanda, which pits Black Panther against Ulysses Klaue. War for Wakanda releases this August.
Developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix, Marvel's Avengers is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Google Stadia.
