Simpsons Producer Wants a Hit & Run Remake as Much as You Do

Matt Selman, an executive producer on The Simpsons, wants a remastered version of the cult classic Hit & Run game.

Speaking to IGN, Selman revealed that he wants to see an updated, modern version of The Simpsons: Hit & Run almost as much as the game's fans. “I would love to see a remastered version of [Simpsons Hit & Run], I would,” said Selman. “It's a complicated corporate octopus to try to make that happen.”

Selman, who co-wrote The Simpsons: Hit & Run, recalls how the open-world sandbox game was, unsurprisingly, influenced by one of the most popular video games of the time. "We were all playing Grand Theft Auto at the time and publisher... they just wanted another driving game. And we were like, everyone's playing whatever version of Grand Theft Auto, people need to get out of the cars," explains Selman.

Selman continued on to say, "That was a huge creative battle over whether it was just a ‘driving around doing missions’ game or a ‘getting out of the car and doing missions’ game. But I do think the battle was worth fighting."

Released in 2003, The Simpsons Hit & Run was met with generally positive reviews and cemented itself as one of the franchises' most popular games. Players are able to step into the shoes of the titular family, and controversial character Apu, adventuring around the town of Springfield both on foot and in a variety of vehicles. As noted by Selman, Grand Theft Auto III's influence is noticeable from the outset. Developed by Radical Entertainment, The Simpsons Hit & Run acted as a follow-up to The Simpsons Road Rage, which didn't allow players to explore Springfield outside of driving.

If you want to see what all the hype is about, then you might need to jump through a few hoops. The Simpsons Hit & Run is only available on PlayStation 2, GameCube and the original Xbox. A version does exist for PC, but it requires a variety of mods to make it compatible with Windows 10.
