Jujutsu Kaisen: 5 Advantages Yuji Has Over Sukuna (& 5 Why He'll Never Win)

Anime-only fans of Jujutsu Kaisen will not have a hard time deciding between Yuji and Sukuna when considering their power levels. The King of Curses is one of the strongest characters in all of Jujutsu Kaisen, and Yuji is little more than a teen with exceptional skill in close-quarter combat.

On the other hand, Yuji has managed to stave off Sukuna by maintaining control of his body. This accomplishment alone gives Yuji an advantage over Sukuna until the King of Curses finds a body of his own. As long as Yuji continues to grow as a jujutsu sorcerer while Sukuna is trapped in his body, he may one day overcome the cursed spirit that far surpasses the special grade rank.

10 ADVANTAGE: Yuji Has The Ability To Keep Sukuna At Bay

The biggest advantage that Yuji Itadori has over Sukuna is the self-control necessary to keep the King of Curses at bay. If Yuji's body were not able to hold onto its own consciousness after consuming one of Sukuna's fingers, JJK would have ended with Gojo defeating Sukuna in the second episode of the anime.

Fortunately, Yuji's self-control grants him the time needed to develop his own skills as a jujutsu sorcerer while Sukuna is left to wallow alone inside Itadori's body.

9 WHY YUJI WILL NEVER WIN: Sukuna's Immense Levels Of Cursed Energy Far Surpass Yuji's

Yuji is only able to tap into the power of cursed energy thanks to the incredible amounts of cursed energy that Sukuna's fingers carry. The King of Curses possesses so much cursed energy within him that, even thousands of years after his demise, a single finger packs enough of a punch to frighten Megumi. Yuji and his friends are not often caught off guard, but Sukuna's power is clearly on a completely different level.

8 ADVANTAGE: Yuji Has A Powerful Set Of Friends Who Could Aid Him In His Battle With The King Of Curses

Though Sukuna does have a small army of special grade cursed spirits who will act in his best interest, Yuji is blessed with an even more powerful group of allies. Between Megumi, Todo, and Nobara, Yuji has three powerful friends who are capable of singlehandedly defeating special grade curses.

If Satoru Gojo is included in the list of Yuji's allies, then it is clear that the team behind Yuji far exceeds the capabilities of Sukuna's allies. The battle between Gojo and Jogo makes it very clear that there isn't a single cursed spirit alive who can take down the strongest jujutsu sorcerer.

7 WHY YUJI WILL NEVER WIN: Sukuna's Power Frightens Even The Most Powerful Cursed Spirits

Sukuna's power is so immense that even the most powerful special grade cursed spirits are frightened by him. The trio of Mahito, Hanami, and Jogo are so inspired by the strength Sukuna has that they are willing to bend their own will to the King of Curses.

This may not seem like much, but curses are notoriously selfish, seeking only to satiate their own desires. Still, the three most powerful cursed spirits, outside of Sukuna himself, serve the King of Curses despite the fact that it goes against their very nature.

6 ADVANTAGE: Yuji Has Time To Realize His Potential While Sukuna Is Trapped In His Body

Though Sukuna is not at risk of being defeated unless Yuji himself is killed, the former is trapped inside a young man's body while the latter is able to use this time to hone his combat skills to perfection.

Sukuna doesn't necessarily need any more time to grow stronger. His past life allowed him to reach his peak strength generations ago. As it stands now though, Yuji has the time and the potential to overcome even the King of Curses, as long as he can continue to maintain control of his own body.

5 WHY YUJI WILL NEVER WIN: Sukuna's Immorality Frees Him From The Constraints Of The Social Hierarchy Yuji Has To Deal With

Though morality is generally respected as a positive attribute, the lack of a moral compass grants Sukuna a type of freedom that Yuji will never have. Despite being a powerful combatant, Yuji will always put others before his own well-being.

Sukuna, on the other hand, has no problem betraying friends or foes in order to achieve victory. He proves this during the Shibuya Incident arc when he completely ignores the help of Jogo, Hanami, and Mahito, despite the fact that they are the most powerful cursed spirits outside of Sukuna himself.

4 ADVANTAGE: Yuji's Ability To Use Black Flash Hints At His Innate Connection To Cursed Energy

Black Flash may not seem like an important part of Yuji's arsenal against Sukuna yet, but if the young prodigy has any claim to a cursed technique, it lies in the unique ability to force cursed energy to fight for him.

When Todo explains Black Flash, he mentions how no jujutsu sorcerer can use the attack on command. Yuji is different though. In nearly every one of his battles, the young sorcerer is able to use Black Flash to force the cursed energy around him to assist him in battle. Regardless of Sukuna's strength, if Yuji is able to control the cursed energy around him as if it were as simple as breathing, he may actually have an advantage over Sukuna in combat when that time comes.

3 WHY YUJI WILL NEVER WIN: Sukuna's Knowledge Of Jujutsu Sorcery Far Surpasses Yuji's

Yuji has grown a lot since the first arc of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga. As he has honed his close combat skills, he has also learned to sense traces of cursed energy and even enhance his combat skills with cursed energy.

Still, Sukuna is called the King of Curses for a reason. His extended history has allowed him to learn everything there is to know about jujutsu sorcery. This knowledge may not give him an advantage over Yuji in terms of combat, but it has allowed him to plot out his own path to freedom without the need to take full control of Yuji's body more than a couple of times.

2 ADVANTAGE: Yuji Is A Master Of Close-Quarters Combat

The only time that fans have seen Yuji face off against Sukuna is after the King of Curses ripped out Yuji's heart with his own hands. While sharing space inside the domain that Sukuna established inside of Yuji's body, the young man surprised the cursed spirit with an impressive display of martial arts.

Seeing how Yuji is able to catch Sukuna off guard during their first encounter, it should be clear that his mastery of close-quarters combat is an advantage that he has. It will surely come in handy later on if the young sorcerer continues to develop this skill and enhances it with cursed energy.

1 WHY YUJI WILL NEVER WIN: Sukuna's Ability To Use Reverse Cursed Energy Means He Can Fight Until Yuji Exhausts Himself

The ability to manipulate cursed energy is impressive, but reversing the flow of cursed energy to produce positive energy is another thing altogether. Only those blessed with immense supplies of cursed energy can reverse the flow and create a positive flow of energy that heals rather than destroys.

It is this reverse cursed energy that allows Gojo to encase his body in a defensive barrier of infinity for a nearly infinite amount of time. Ryomen Sukuna uses this reverse cursed energy to heal himself. So even if Yuji did manage to take him down once, the King of Curses could simply heal his injuries until Yuji exhausted himself.
