JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: 10 Anime Characters Voiced By Kujo Jotaro’s VA Ono Daisuke

Ono Daisuke joined the voice acting world in 2001 and in two decades has made a massive name for himself among fans and colleagues. His voice appears in anime, tokusatsu, video games, drama CDs, and live-action dubbing, such as his role as Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor in the Wonder Woman films. His radio show Dear Girl: Stories, co-hosted with Kamiya Hiroshi (Levi Ackerman; Trafalgar Law), is one of the longest-running and most popular voice actor-hosted radio shows to date.

Ono has won a number of awards, both for his work and his personality, as he’s known among colleagues for being extremely kind. His voice is smooth, warm, and can take on a commanding tone that often lands him roles as leaders and other highly intelligent characters. His characters’ battle cries are some of the most well-known in anime, and his range allows him to work in many genres and play a broad range of personalities.

10 Jotaro Is One Of The Most Recognizable Characters In Anime (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)

Kujo Jotaro helmed the ship that took JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure into the world of Stands in Part 3, Stardust Crusaders. He and his Stand, Star Platinum, are instantly recognizable even among those unfamiliar with the series. Ono brings a deeper, unaffected voice that works perfectly for Jotaro’s stoic personality and his trademark “Yare yare daze.”

And when it’s time to get serious, Jotaro’s “Ora!” is the show’s most iconic line – the original Stand cry that has been referenced countless times. JoJo’s has incredible voice acting all around, and Ono was the perfect choice for a renowned Joestar role. Ono has been a fan of JoJo’s since his college days, and he credits Araki Hirohiko’s work as a big inspiration for entering the voice acting industry.

9 Sebastian Michaelis Is A Smooth-Talking Demon (Black Butler)

The smooth composure of Ono’s voice comes through with Sebastian Michaelis, the Phantomhive household’s demon butler. Sebastian is devoted to performing Ciel’s (Sakamoto Maaya) orders and to his work as the household’s head butler. His fascination with humans, aestheticism, views on money and sleep, and multilingualism make his character engaging just as much as Ono’s portrayal of him. Ono perfectly displays the dichotomy of Sebastian’s personality: charming but cunning, elegant but ruthless. Sebastian is the face of Black Butler, even more than the head of house whose soul he intends to claim.

8 Nendou Is Tough On The Outside, Soft On The Inside (The Disastrous Life Of Saiki K)

Ono plays one of his gruffer roles as Nendou Riki, a main character in The Disastrous Life of Saiki K, alongside Kamiya Hiroshi, equally a legend in voice acting, as the titular Saiki. Nendou has a rock for a brain but a golden heart. His looks get him judged as a delinquent, but he’s actually kind, caring to people and animals alike, and enjoys helping others, especially those who are weak. Still, he can lack manners and is very dimwitted—perhaps the reason he’s the only person in the entire series whose mind Saiki can’t read.

7 Erwin Smith Has A Commanding Presence And A Dream (Attack On Titan)

In another wildly popular leader role, Ono voices Erwin Smith, the Scout Regiment’s 13th commander and close friend to Levi Ackerman, once again voiced by Kamiya. Erwin is one of Attack on Titan’s most respected characters, leading his Scouts on their mission to rid the world of Titans and in his personal goal of discovering the truth of Paradis and the world.

Erwin wants nothing more than to continue learning what his father first taught him when he was a child: that the Paradis citizens’ memories had been tampered with and that there is more outside the walls. Erwin makes countless sacrifices in his crusade, from his own arm to his own men. Ono’s perfectly-acted “My soldiers, rage!” comes from Erwin’s chillingly iconic speech rallying steadfast loyalty to humankind and beckoning death.

6 William Vangeance Leads With Compassion (Black Clover)

As the captain of the Golden Dawn, it’s only right that William Vangeance is a powerful mage. His mana capacity is immense, and he is able to grow massive trees for offense and defense, combine them with other magic, and heal. It’s fitting for his calm, gentle, and amiable nature – and Ono’s voice fits it as well. Ono portrays a young man who comes from a difficult childhood of being ridiculed for a facial scar, but who has taken his hardships and turned them into the strength of will and compassion it takes to lead Black Clover’s most powerful Magic Knight squad.

5 Daikoku Is The Protector Of His Goofy Goddess (Noragami)

Daikoku is bound to the goddess Kofuku as her shinki – a spirit that transforms into a weapon or item for the god’s use. When Kofuku calls him as the vessel Kokki, Daikoku turns into a Japanese fan that can open a Vent in the earth. Vents are generally bad in Noragami, and Kofuku is known as the Queen of Bad Luck, fitting for her status as the Goddess of Poverty. Daikoku keeps watch over her, and though he can be serious, defensive, and intimidating, he’s reliable and deeply loyal to Kofuku. He’ll protect her from anyone who gets too close to her, including protagonist Yato (Kamiya).

4 Lauroe Keeps His True Power Under Wraps (Tower Of God)

A lot of Ono’s lines in the Crunchyroll Original Tower of God come in the form of yawns. Phonsekal Lauroe spends most of his time wrapped up in a futon with a pillow, sleeping as much as he can manage. He even avoids walking, using shinsu to hover around, and when he does speak, it’s brief and often half-yawned. But Lauroe’s sluggish nature belies his power level. He’s a phenomenal Wave Controller from the start, immediately noticed by Ranker and Test Administrator Lero-Ro (Tsuda Kenjiro). Lauroe only gets more powerful over time as he makes his way up the Tower and more is discovered about his origins.

3 Tsukishima Shukuro Is A True Lost Soul (Bleach)

Though most of his roles are purely heroic or at least morally good, Ono plays an absolute villain in Bleach’s Tsukishima Shukuro. Shukuro is a Fullbringer, able to manipulate souls of physical matter. His Book of the End power turns his bookmark into a katana, which can strike and kill or can send Shukuro into his target’s memories, which he can then manipulate to the point of mental breakdown.

Shukuro was persecuted for his Fullbring powers as a child, and thus he is now a cautious and calculated man, collected and even cold in personality. His amoral nature gives him no remorse over the anguish he causes his victims. He is generally unemotional, though his rage surfaced at the death of his master and savior as a child, Ginjo Kugo (Touchi Hiroki), at the hands of Ichigo (Morita Masakazu).

2 Arthur Auguste Angel Just Wants To Get Rid Of Satan (Blue Exorcist)

Blue Exorcist follows Okumura Rin (Okamoto Nobuhiko), who joins True Cross Academy under the supervision of Mephisto Pheles (Kamiya). But as the son of Satan with demon blood, Rin has a target on his back, and the True Cross Order waits for any cause they can find to capture and execute him.

Arthur A. Angel is the newest Paladin of the Order, a serious leader who believes in regulations and following commands from the Grigori. His sometimes conceited tendencies belie a deep hatred for all things demonic, and he scorns Rin’s very existence, unhesitant to threaten or injure those who stand in his way of protecting mankind from Satan’s influence.

1 Midorima Shintarou Is A Miraculous Basketball Star (Kuroko No Basket)

“Man proposes, God disposes,” is Midorima’s motto; do what you can, and fate will handle the rest. As a member of the Generation of Miracles, Midorima is one of Kuroko no Basket’s overpowered top players with a preternatural ability. His Super Three Point Shot launches a jump shot with a super-high arc from anywhere outside the 3-point line. It never misses, and it disrupts the game and his opponents’ psychological flow as it forces them to watch the ball move through the air and score.

Midorima is reserved, insightful, and confident sometimes to the point of arrogance. In the beginning, he refuses to rely on others, but he’s developed into playing with his team to prioritize winning, and has actually come to enjoy the game.
