Animal Crossing's New Content Will Finally be Revealed Next Week

Nintendo finally confirmed a date for the next major Animal Crossing: New Horizons Direct showcase.

Announced on Twitter, the upcoming live stream dedicated to new content for Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be held on Oct. 15. While the actual information included in the presentation is currently unknown, the 20 minute Direct is expected to reveal more information on Brewster, the series' coffee-making pigeon. Many fans have noted that the event takes place on the same day as Brewster's birthday.

Brewster's long-awaited arrival was first teased during the last Nintendo Switch Direct. The brief teaser trailer shows the player character walking into their island's museum and investigating a sign for The Roost. Long-time fans of the Animal Crossing franchise will recognize this as Brewster's coffee shop, which is open all day, seven days a week. In previous games, players could purchase hot beverages from the aloof owner, who after a while will ask about their favorite drink. In New Leaf, players could eventually work with Brewster, creating coffee for the inhabitants of their town.

Brewster's introduction also likely indicates the return of gyroids, a beloved feature of previous Animal Crossing games. These unique pieces of furniture can be discovered by players throughout the game and offer unique animations and noises when discovered. Many players criticized Animal Crossing: New Horizons for not including gyroids upon launch as they play a crucial part in many previous installments. Brewster is historically fond of gyroids so while their inclusion is unconfirmed, it's a distinct possibility.

Released in 2020, Animal Crossing: New Horizons was a smash hit for Nintendo. The game received universal praise from both fans and critics alike, with many appreciating its calm, relaxing energy at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. While the game has been updated consistently over the course of the last year, it's recently undergone a dry spell in terms of significant new updates. Players hoping for meaningful content additions will have to wait for Oct. 15 to see the extent of the new update.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
