Marvel Studios Shifts Release Dates Back for Every 2022-23 Film

In a sudden turn of events, it has been reported that Marvel Studios has pushed the premiere date of every project previously set for release in 2022 and 2023 back by several months.

Beginning with the feature film kickoff to Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness as been pushed back by several months, replacing Thor: Love and Thunder, which replaced Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. For most films, the difference is several months. But the major shift has seemingly resulted in the removal of two untitled projects from Marvel Studios' slate. The details can be found below.

  • Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, which was previously scheduled for March 25, 2022, moved to May 6, 2022.
  • Thor: Love and Thunder, previously scheduled for May 6, 2022, moved to July 8, 2022.
  • Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which was previously dated on July 8, 2022, has been moved to Nov. 11, 2022.
  • The Marvels was moved from Nov. 11, 2022 to Feb. 17, 2023.
  • Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was previously scheduled for release on Feb. 17, 2023 and has been pushed back to July 28, 2023.
  • Two untitled projects, previously scheduled for July 28, 2023 and Oct. 6, 2021, have been removed from the schedule completely. Another untitled film, previously set for Nov. 10, 2023, has been moved to Nov. 3, 2023.

This is on top of other projects for Disney properties, including Indiana Jones 5 and a live-action remake. Details are scarce at this time, but it has been reported that this is simply a domino effect relating to production and filmmakers and the fact that certain projects are in different stages of production than others.

It is unlikely that this shift will impact marketing too heavily, so audiences may still be able to look forward to the release of Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness' first official trailer, which will reportedly arrive some time this December. On top of that, the Master of the Mystic Arts will be returning to the big screen sooner than his sequel film, when he helps Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

While the Doctor Strange sequel and Thor: Love and Thunder both completed filming some time ago, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is still in production and might therefore benefit from the recent release shift. Until then, audiences can still look forward to many of their other favorite superheroes returning to screens, as well as a few new ones in the upcoming Eternals film.
