Supergirl Series Finale Synopsis Promises Returning Heroes and a Major Wedding

The CW released the official synopses for the two-hour series finale of Supergirl.

The two synopses are for the last two episodes of the Arrowverse series, which ran on The CW for six seasons. The penultimate episode, Season 6, Episode 19, "The Last Gauntlet," sets the stage for the series finale, teasing the kidnapping of a loved one by the sinister Nyxly (Peta Sergeant) and Lex (Jon Cryer). The synopsis for the series finale itself, the 20th episode of the sixth and final season, titled "Kara," teases not only the return of three previous heroes but also the wedding of Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Kelly (Azie Tesfai).

The finale will also see the return of series alumni Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Jeremy Jordan as Winn Scott and Chris Wood as Mon-El/Mike Matthews. It was confirmed in August 2021 that the three actors would be reprising their respective roles for the series finale. "It would not have felt right if they hadn't come back," series star Melissa Benoist said at the time. "I loved seeing my friends. I don't think it would've been a right goodbye if the people who came back hadn't come back, so I'm very grateful that they did. It's always difficult to get that many people back in the same place, especially in the pandemic, so I'm really glad it worked out that way."

The sixth and final season of Supergirl premiered on The CW on March 30, temporarily taking the place of fellow Superman-centric Arrowverse series Superman & Lois, which was forced to go on hiatus due to a coronavirus (COVID-19) related incident. While details surrounding the finale have been kept under wraps until now, Leigh (who plays Alex Danvers in the series), previously said the script for Episode 20, "Kara" as "definitely a cryer," later adding that it was "a beautiful script." "I'm really really very happy with how it ended, especially for Alex [Danvers, Leigh's character on the series] and all of her relationships," she continued. "Her relationship with Kelly, her relationship with Kara, and her relationship with J'onn. It’s really powerful."
