The Batman: Zack Snyder Endorses the Dark Knight's New Film | CBR

Following the recently unveiled second trailer for Matt Reeves' The Batman, director Zack Snyder shared praise for the next live-action Dark Knight film.

"This is awesome," Snyder tweeted along with a link to the trailer the premiered at DC FanDome. He similarly praised The Batman after FanDome in 2020, explaining how he thought the new take on the character was "the right direction."

Snyder has his own history with Batman, having worked with the character in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Zack Snyder's Justice League. Both of those films featured Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader, and he was initially set to direct, produce, co-write and star in The Batman before dropping out of the project. Reeves was hired soon after to rework the script, setting the film outside the main DCEU continuity and focusing on the early days of Batman's crimefighting career. The film is expected to emphasize the character's detective side more so than its predecessors, with comics such as Year One and The Long Halloween having been cited as inspirations.

As for Snyder, his tenure with DC Films and Warner Bros. seemingly ended with the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League on HBO Max.

Although Batman has appeared in several of Snyder's recent DCEU films, The Batman will be the iconic character's first standalone live-action movie since 2012's The Dark Knight Rises from director Christopher Nolan. The latest trailer for The Batman, however, seems to suggest the upcoming film will be the darkest adaptation of the Caped Crusader yet. The footage showed a particularly gritty take on The Riddler, who some fans have even theorized to be The Joker in disguise, as well as a noticeably darker bat signal meant to be not just a call but a warning to Gotham's criminal underworld.
