Tomb Raider Star Offers Update on Movie Sequel | CBR

The sequel to 2018's Tomb Raider is still being worked on and its star is still just as enthusiastic about the upcoming project, despite filming delays brought about by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

In an interview with Total Film, star Alicia Vikander talked about her enthusiasm for the video game sequel, as well as its progress. She said, "When the studio first said they were interested in a sequel, I got really excited...When Misha [Green] was mentioned to me and I saw the work on Lovecraft Country, I was extremely impressed." She added, "It’s so much fun on the Zooms I’ve had with Misha to finally sit with another woman my own age." She remains hopeful that the movie will move ahead, saying, "I get to talk about big action set pieces and stunts that we want to make. I’m hoping that we get on track and get to do something together."

Announced in 2019, the film was set to enter production in early 2020 but was postponed to an undecided date after the pandemic caused an industry-wide shut down. After a year of uncertainty, Vikander reassured fans that the sequel was not dead.

The franchise at large is very much alive. In the past year, a Tomb Raider anime series was announced, with Hayley Atwell cast as the voice of Croft. With developers still planning for the next instalment of Tomb Raider, fans have shown that their devotion to the video game series and to Lara Croft as an iconic heroine is still going strong. In fact, a group of dedicated fans are currently working on a remake of Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness for modern consoles.
