Miraculous Ladybug: 6 Characters Fans Think Could Be LGBTQ+ | CBR

Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir never skips a beat when it comes to ethnic and racial diversity, gender equality and LGBTQ+ inclusion. Since its 2015 premiere, devoted viewers have attempted to make the animated series even more relatable through "headcanon," a term that encapsulates details fans imagine to be true, despite a lack of supporting evidence spelled out in the text, or on the show. Sometimes that involves projecting aspects onto characters that make them more relatable to that viewer.

Here are some of the more generally accepted Miraculous "headcanons" that are yet to be affirmed as "canon" identities.

There seems to be a lot of fanfiction revolving around Adrien Agreste -- the male protagonist of Miraculous -- being transgender. That would indicate Adrien was AFAB (Assigned Female At Birth) and either already transitioned or is currently transitioning.

Comments have been made regarding Adrien's living situation and backstory. The theories include that he is anxious yet excited to go to school, where he could make friends, but people could find out he is transgender. Chloé, being his childhood friend, would be the first person in which Adrien would confide. As a model, he is subjected to the pressure of attention and worries that people won’t see him as Adrien -- as a boy. When transforming into Cat Noir, he is thrilled by his attire because the cat suit emphasizes his body in a flattering way. When he dons his costume, he does not have to be the perfect son for his father, or the "perfect boy" for the world. He finds the freedom to express himself and not worry about the way people see him.

The prefix "pan-" means "all." Pansexuality means being attracted to people of all genders -- and those who do not identify with any gender. Adrien has a loving personality, which could also suggest that he identifies as pansexual. Although without much evidence, this is the most popular "headcanon" for Adrien's sexuality, besides straight.

Despite dating Alya Césaire, Nino Lahiffe is often thought to have bisexual tendencies. Without a doubt, the most obvious indication of an attraction to two (or more) genders would be his bromance with Adrien Agreste. Some fans believe that, while Nino adores Alya, he had (or has) a crush on Adrien. This could suggest Nino simply has a preference, but is attracted to multiple genders.

The feelings that Nino has toward Cat Noir are those of a "fanboy," defined as a male fan who behaves in an obsessive or overexcited way. Such an obsession could be an innocent crush on the cat-themed superhero. And who is Cat Noir? None other than Adrien Agreste.

Perhaps the most unexpected speculation is that Chloé Bourgeois is a lesbian. This theory is widely discussed on Tumblr, and has certainly changed a few outlooks. Miraculous Ladybug emphasizes that Chloé has a "crush" on Adrien, because Adrien and Chloé have been friends since childhood.

Ladybug, also known as Marinette, is Chloé's superheroine idol, with whom she has an unhealthy obsession. Chloé also gets frustrated whenever Marinette flirts with Adrien, which has raised some eyebrows. If Chloé has a crush on Marinette, she would likely hate the idea of Adrien and Marinette together.

Sabrina Raincomprix is Chloé Bourgeois' shadow. She follows Chloé everywhere, worships her and does everything Chloé tells her to do. Speculation has abounded that such obedient and infatuated behavior is Sabrina's coping mechanism for being romantically attracted to Chloé. From playing dress-up to falling asleep together, this pair of girlfriends are clearly very close, and perceptive Miraculous fans have picked up on this.

Sabrina could be so tolerant of Chloé's mean streak because she hopes that someday, her feelings will be reciprocated. Another theory is that Sabrina could be attracted to assertive, dominant women -- in which case, Chloé certainly fits the bill.

Polysexuality is defined as a sexual and/or romantic attraction to multiple genders. It's not the same as being bisexual or pansexual, although all of these sexualities involve being attracted to more than one gender. A polysexual person is not attracted to all genders and does not even have to be attracted to both women and men at all, as traditionally described by bisexuality.

Lê Chiến Kim appears to be a stereotypically masculine male who shows little indication of a sexual or romantic attraction outside of women. However, some fans believe that while Kim has a soft spot for Chloé -- who would not reciprocate his feelings -- and has flirted with Ondine, a fellow swimmer, he is in fact taken by Max Kante, his best friend with whom he spends much of his time.

Alya Césaire is the "fangirl" equivalent of Nino's "fanboy" when it comes to Ladybug and Cat Noir -- no wonder Alya and Nino are in a relationship. As the sole creator and owner of "The LadyBlog," Alya documents all of Ladybug and Cat Noir's adventures for the general public to view. She likes to consider herself Ladybug's biggest fan, so the fact that she and Marinette are best friends tells a story of its own.

The way in which Alya fawns over Ladybug is potentially much more telling than simply an act of idolizing. It could suggest romantic attraction, and, while this development and the others suggested above have not been confirmed or denied, certain fans do indeed infer its truth and continue to seek more "headcanon" by analyzing their favorite characters.
