The next game coming to Netflix Gaming is Hextech Mayhem, a surprising League of Legends spin-off starring fan-favorite explosives enthusiast Ziggs.
Announced via an official blog post, Hextech Mayhem is described by developer Choice Provisions as a "rhythm runner" that sees players swiping in time with a beat to control Zigg's movement across the screen. The chaotic character has three available actions, as evidenced in the gameplay trailer: stomp, jump and bomb. In order to effectively pull these moves off, players will need to match the displayed prompts to maintain their momentum and ensure Ziggs stays on his designated path. Before the game hits Netflix, it will debut on PC and Nintendo Switch.
"Bomb, bounce, and bop to the beat of the music to avoid obstacles, disarm enemies, and light fuses to achieve maximum chaos. Cause musical mayhem while outrunning no-fun-allowed Heimerdinger in your quest to build the greatest bomb the world has ever seen!" reads the game's official description. Choice Provisions confirmed that Hextech Mayhem will sport several game modes, each one recontextualizing the core mechanic of swiping along with the rhythm. "Use the Freestyle Mayhem System to create spontaneous blasts and grab bonus points… all while dodging the fun police and showing them what they’re really missing," concludes the post.
This isn't the first major collaboration between Netflix and Riot Games, the studio behind the wildly popular League of Legends franchise. The popular MOBA game was recently adapted into Arcane, an animated series that follows the origins of Jinx and Vi, orphaned sisters trying to survive a tense period of conflict between the cities of Piltover and Zuan. The show has earned largely favorable reviews, with many praising its slick animation style and writing.
With the confirmation that Hextech Mayhem will eventually launch on Netflix Gaming, the streaming giant is clearly making moves to reinforce its new platform. To further bolster its roster of games, Netflix recently acquired Night School Studios, the development team behind the critically acclaimed Oxenfree. It's currently unknown what other games Netflix plans on adding to its service.
Hextech Mayhem launches for Nintendo Switch and PC on Nov. 16 and will be added to Netflix Gaming at some point in the future.
