The Boys Debuts Footage of Its New Supe, a Scarlet Witch “Hero”

The Boys' Vought News Network has released the first footage of The Walking Dead's Laurie Holden as Crimson Countess.

Just two days prior to the November episode of the the fictional network's monthly show "Seven on 7 with Cameron Coleman," the Prime Video series' social media accounts released the first image of Holden as the Crimson Countess, sporting an entirely red outfit and domino mask while staring down the camera. The caption read, "Payback's a b*tch," a nod to the super team the supe is a part of in the comics and the upcoming third season. During the new Seven on 7 episode, fans were treated to the first look at Holden's portrayal as the character, seen singing during an advertisement for "Vought Land."

Crimson Countess first appeared in The Boys comics during the first issue of Herogasm. The six-issue miniseries will serve as the inspiration for Episode 6 of Season 3, showrunner Eric Kripke claiming previously that "there will be no topping 'Herogasm.'" While members of the team Payback were shown in comics prior to that point, Herogasm #1 not only serves as the first appearance of Crimson Countess, but Soldier Boy, who will be portrayed by Supernatural alum Jensen Ackles in the upcoming season as well.

The first look at Ackles as Soldier Boy was released in June 2021, with a similar caption that read, "He's the f'n Captain now, America," though footage of the supe has yet to be seen. Crimson Countess and Soldier Boy serve as the satire's twists on Marvel Comics' Scarlet Witch and Captain America, respectively. The Season 3 premiere will be titled "Payback" after their shared super team, which also included members Tek-Knight and Stormfront in the comics, with the mechanized supe previously being namedropped in the Prime Video series while Stormfront was the primary antagonist of Season 2.

It is unclear at the moment what other members of Payback may be adapted for the screen or if Aya Cash might make a return as Stormfront alongside Holden and Ackles. Kripke has confirmed that she wasn't dead last year, but that she will be left in a dismembered state following the injuries she sustained in the Season 2 finale. That finale saw Homelander (Antony Starr) blackmailed by Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott), forcing him to let The Boys escape and make no moves against them, Maeve or Starlight (Erin Moriarty).

In the comics, a similar reason is the cause for Payback targeting The Boys. Because the anti-supe team holds blackmail against the Seven, especially Homelander, Payback is instructed by Vought to take out The Boys being that the Seven cannot without serious repercussions. It is unclear if Season 3 will feature a similar storyline, seeing that Kripke has described Homelander as being a "homicidal maniac" in the upcoming season.

Joining the The Boys in addition to Holden and Ackles will be Miles Gaston Villanueva as Starlight's ex-boyfriend AKA Supersonic, Sean Patrick Flannery as Gunpowder, Nick Wechsler as Blue Hawk and Dexter Alum as Little Nina. The new season does not have an official release date, but will reportedly drop near the middle of 2022.
