Xbox Boss All But Confirms Elder Scrolls VI's Exclusivity | CBR

Microsoft's Phil Spencer potentially confirms that The Elder Scrolls VI will launch as an Xbox Series X|S exclusive.

During an interview with GQ, Spencer opened up about how Microsoft intends to approach exclusive software releases, specifically in relation to Bethesda's upcoming line-up. "It’s not about punishing any other platform, like I fundamentally believe all of the platforms can continue to grow,” said Spencer. “But in order to be on Xbox, I want us to be able to bring the full complete package of what we have. And that would be true when I think about Elder Scrolls VI. That would be true when I think about any of our franchises.” GQ goes on to note that Spencer believes The Elder Scrolls VI will have a similar launch to Bethesda's Starfield, which will also be an Xbox Series X|S exclusive.

Little is currently known about The Elder Scrolls VI beyond that it's currently in production at Bethesda Softworks. Announced in 2018 during Bethesda's E3 showcase, a brief teaser trailer showed off the game's logo and a sweeping fantasy landscape. Since the reveal, the developer has been tight-lipped on any developments. Many fans have grown impatient, demanding more frequent updates on how The Scrolls VI is progressing. Executive Producer Todd Howard recently opened up about how even his son has begun to ask about the game.

As for Bethesda's other upcoming role-playing game, Starfield is set to launch in late 2022. The sci-fi RPG will be the studio's first original IP in over 20 years and will embody a more serious tone. Players will join an organization known as Constellation, an interstellar exploratory group dedicated to researching the Milky Way. According to Howard, the team at Bethesda worked with NASA to create the game's unique aesthetic, which seeks to be more scientifically accurate.

In terms of scale, Starfield is gearing up to be the largest game Bethesda has ever produced. According to Howard, the game's script includes over 150,000 lines of dialogue. It will also feature a deeper, more "hardcore" role-playing system, allowing adventurers to even select their preferred pronouns. As for the game's unique mechanics, Bethesda will likely show gameplay in 2022.

Starfield launches on Nov. 11, 2022 for Xbox Series X|S and PC.
