WARNING: The following contains spoilers for The Good Doctor Season 4, Episode 19, "Venga," which aired Monday on ABC.
The first part of the Season 4 finale of The Good Doctor takes the surgical team to Guatemala, where they will try to save as many people as possible during their ten-day mission. But while some of the staff has little trouble transitioning, Cheif of Surgery Audrey Lim may have bitten off more than she can chew.
Upon arriving in Guatemala, the group heads to the hospital they'll be working at and meets Dr. Rendon, who will guide them during their stay. From the start, it's clear Rendon's methods bother Lim, especially after she has him translate a diagnosis and he puts in little effort. Rendon claims that using medical jargon will only scare the patients, and he has his own way of doing things, but Lim still isn't sold on him.
Later, as the group debates who they'll be offering surgery to, Lim and Rendon once again buttheads over the patients' personal lives. Rendon doesn't believe it should play a role in their decision-making, while Lim, who's been opening up with some help from Claire, thinks it's impossible to ignore. The group eventually decides to meet in the middle, and after a hard day's work, they head out to get some drinks.
Everyone's having a good time at the bar until Lim notices Dr. Andrews being flirtatious with one of the hospital's nurses. Andrews has a wife back home, something Lim points out, but he tells her it's nothing to worry about. Irritated, Lim decides to call it a night, but as she jumps in a cab, Rendon decides to join her. However, just as they begin to patch things up after some small talk, the driver reveals he's kidnapping them.
They soon arrive at a house a few miles from the hospital and realize that the man wasn't looking to hold them for ransom; his wife was just in need of help. She's been in intense labor for 14 hours, so Lim and Rendon quickly spring into action to help diagnose the problem. Nothing seems to be working, though, at least until Rendon think outside the box and tells Lim to squeeze the baby's finger, immediately setting it free. After a little bit more pushing, the baby comes out to greet its two loving parents.
Having successfully saved both mother and child, Lim and Rendon head back to the hotel. But just as Rendon appears ready to leave, he and Lim lock eyes one more time and begin kissing. This may seem like a major win for the Chief of Surgery after the rough years she's had, but given her commitment issues, things could turn sour in the final episode of Season 4.
